Re: 4a/b Naturals-- 9 Questions on products & methods you use for edges, sets, & styl

Good questions OP. Im transing so I would not able to answer all of the questions, but Ill bump this for you. I would like to know what the ladies use too

Re: 4a/b Naturals-- 9 Questions on products & methods you use for edges, sets, & styl

1. Smooth edges
Products
Tools

any oil or water based mist...what is important is that I tie down my edges with a scarf! other than using a scarf I can kiss smooth edges goodbye. It works best if I tie down my hair overnight but I have gotten away with leaving it on for 20min or so in the morning.

2. Straight Hair
Products: chi silk infusion
Tools: sedu, ceramic blowdry
How long does it last

about a week.

3. Detangling
Products: grapeseed oil
Tools : fingers

I have my best results when I finger detangle with oil and section my hair into 10 plaits for washing.... Some pepopl use conditioner but I have fine hair and I find wet detangling doesnt work as well for MY HAIR.

4. Colis, Two/flat strand twists, braids
Products
I use my typical moisturizers to twist: Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship and Paul Mitchell the conditioner. And I use John Frieda daily leave in as well as Aphogee Provitamin leave in

5. Flexi/rod sets
Products: moisturizer, and lotta body setting lotion and END papers (for me these are a must to smooth my ends)
Method of drying: air dry or I use a bonnet dryer

6. Puffs
Products
Tools
When I did do them I used my usual moisturizers but I found that my puffs looked nicer if I did bantu knots overnight to set my hair and fluffed them out in the morning

7. Wash n goes/curl defenition
Products
Method
I dont bother with wash and goes.... they create too many tangles and single strand knots

8. Braidouts, Twistouts, coilouts
Products
How do you preserve it
I use a bonnet at night to get 2nd day hair....I never really get more than second day hair

9. Favorite special treatment
(Henna, BKT, Coconut/Lime, ect) I dont do special treatments really, unless Aphogee 2-step counts

I am a 4 a natural and I am APL dunno if that matters....Also my methods have changed as my hair has gotten longer and I suspect they will change again. For instance I do not use the bonnet dryer and I do not plan to straighten anytime soon. I am trying to eliminate split ends in my life

1. Smooth edges

I don't worry about it

2. Straight Hair

I don't do it

3. Detangling
Products
Tools
My leave in on wet hair (Lustrasik mixed with olive oil and wheat germ oil)
Large tooth seemless comb

4. Colis, Two/flat strand twists, braids
Products
My leave in on wet hair (Lustrasik mixed with olive oil and wheat germ oil)

5. Flexi/rod sets
Products
Method of drying
n/a
I don't do it
I tried once and did not like it. It probably didn't work because I do not have a blunt cut.

6. Puffs
Products
Tools
My leave in on wet hair (Lustrasik mixed with olive oil and wheat germ oil)
Homemade hair bungee (cut up pantyhose and 2 bobby pins).
I use one hand to hold my hair in a ponytail and the other to put in my hair bungee.
It's easy, simple, and I am not fighting my hair and possibly causing breakage while I am trying to get it through loops or scootching and tightening a hair tie.
The relevant demonstration starts about 1:22.

7. Wash n goes/curl defenition

Method
n/a
I don't do it

I've done it twice and regretted it both time. The detangling is not worth it.

8. Braidouts, Twistouts, coilouts
Products
How do you preserve it
My leave in on wet hair (Lustrasik mixed with olive oil and wheat germ oil)
Maintain: I lightly wet with spray bottle mixture
(can you guess?..................................................water mixed with Lustrasik, olive oil and wheat germ oil) as soon as I come home from work and re-twist or re-braid.

9. Favorite special treatment

1. Smooth edges
Products

I get smooth edges when I put on a headband or sleep w/ my satin scarf, but it's not a major concern of mine.

2. Straight Hair

Tools
How long does it last
I am still practicing at flat-ironing, but the products that I use to practice are as follows: FHI Heat Nano Salon Pro 2000 Blow Dryer (with a comb attachment), LavaTech Pressing Comb, T3 Medium Duality Flat Iron & a heat protectant (I have a few of them, so I choose randomly.).

3. Detangling
Products
Tools
Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In and Castor Oil. I first use my fingers, then I use a wide-toothed comb, and then I use a smaller-toothed comb.

4. Colis, Two/flat strand twists, braids
Products
This summer is the first time that I have been regularly wearing two-strand twists. I've been using Darcy's Botanicals Curl Detangling Milk and Opal Hue's Honey Love Pomade. I have to find a way to incorporate the Jane Carter Solution Nourish and Shine because it provides amazing shine.

5. Flexi/rod sets
Products
Method of drying
I have never done them.

6. Puffs
Products
Tools
N/A

7. Wash n goes/curl defenition
Products
Method

8. Braidouts, Twistouts, coilouts
Products
How do you preserve it
What I use depends on the season & if it's done on wet or dry hair.

I only do braidouts on dry hair. In the winter and fall, I use Hairveda's Almond Glaze. I haven't done a braidout this summer.

Twistouts in the spring on dry hair=Hairveda's Almond Glaze.
I haven't done a twistout on dry hair this summer.
Twistouts on wet hair in the winter and fall=Jane Carter Solution Hair Nourishing Cream.

I preserve these styles by pinning my hair up with bobby pins and covering my hair with a satin scarf or bonnet.
