How To Make A Less Defined, Fluffy Wash And Go Last?

I've been preferring my wash and gos fluffy and less defined these days so I've been using curl creams and/or lighter hold gels than Ecostyler. I've also been picking out the roots.

Only problem is that these wash and go's don't last at all. I can get maybe 2 days out of them, whereas with Eco I can get about 5 days. And ain't nobody got time to be washing every 2 days.

This is putting me off of trying to have the big fluffy look and just using Eco. I've come to accept that I have low density hair (used to kid myself that it was medium density) and fine hair so my hair is never gonna look huge no matter what I do, but with Eco, especially now my hair is shorter, it looks so flat and blah.

How are you ladies preserving your fluffy, less defined wash and gos?

Large loose plaits with glycerin. I would recommend braiding the hair in 4-6 sections making sure to moisturizer with a mix of glycerin alongside your ecostyler/curl cream. The glycerin would help retain moisture and control the frizz that's bound to occur without a heavy gel stylers.

If you're not a fan of glycerin, try diluting the Ecostyler with some curl cream or an oil-based moisturizer. I found oil-based moisturizers most effective in making my hair look shiny and moisturized while sporting a more Bohemian wash-n-go without the heavy gels or custards.

I have used iso bouncy creme in the past for my wng, it was awesome with a light hold and it gave me the volume I wanted. My hair is fine with normal density. I just started using the camille rose curl gel. It gives great hold and I still get volume. To refresh it, I just spritz with water, smooth and shake for big hair.

I just pineapple at night. And when my hair was shorter I did 2-3 pineapples. In the morning I would shower without a shower cap to let the steam hit it, fluff and go. I can get a conditioner only wash n go to last 7 days doing that. If I use a mousse or cream I can get 10 days.

Have you considered a hair cut to shape it better? Like layering it? That may solve your problem without having to switch products. Of course, that's assuming you don't mind that. I don't know if you guys have Deva cut specialists in the UK, but worth looking into.

There are many youtube vids that show that.

I've looked for salons that do the deva cut over here but I haven't found any or any that seem reputable.

But, yes, I've only recently just cut it again trying to shape it.

It is actually layered shorter on top but I didn't want to cut it too short so the layers are quite long and it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference in terms of volume and I really don't want to cut it any shorter. I'm trying to grow it out now.

Besides, it seems that whatever shape I cut it into when my hair gets to a certain length it just hangs down. It won't stay up at all. It gets very flat on top because the density is low. Seems like around my crown is where it's lowest.

In that case, try to dry your hair on the crown and the top with clips in. That's how they get hair to lift and have volume on top after the Deva cut.

Forward to 7:10 to see what I mean:

@fasika you made me go and cut my hair again! I watched that video, then looked up videos on how to cut curly hair for more volume and then I went and got my scissors. I'm so scissor happy:nono:. Anyway, I cut it into a sort of diamond shape, as I don't think a circle shape works with my hair.

Kinda like these:

I love it! It immediately helped with the volume. I'm at work right now but when I get home I'll post a pic.

Pics!

And I promise you, my hair looks much bigger irl! The camera always shrinks my hair. :angry2: Why dafuq does that happen??

Anyway, here it is from the front. Didn't like my lips in this pic hence the sticker.

I tried to take a pic of the back but that was a fail so I gave up. But you get the jist.

As you can see, it's a lot different from how it was before (see avatar for reference). I did actually like how it was before but it was very bottom heavy and flat on top.

My
hair is low density. Seriously, if you put your fingers in my hair you can get to my scalp straight away :nono:. Sometimes I feel like I'm bald. It's always been like that tho. I get it from my mama. Even look at the cut. Those top layers are super short, I mean
really short, yet still my hair flops downwards on top  whereas if you look at the videos I posted, their super short layers at the top stay standing up.

But, oh well, it is what it is. I'm really loving this cut!

However, I think I'm gonna need FH to hide my scissors:look:. I need to stop cutting and let this ish grow out again!

You really did a good job on the cut! If you dry with clips on the crown, it will have even more lift and volume, and will just be perfection.
Yaaass! Good cut! You could also get volume in the top with clips, a blowdryer (hanging your head upside down), or you could make a little half pony high up on your head when it's, like, 70-80% dry.

Completely different texture here, but my hair kinda flops too in places. It's fine too, that's probably it. It just don't have the strength to stand up strong. I had a short tapered cut last summer, so parts were super short, like 1-2", and they still wouldn't stick up like they were supposed to. Wth?!? :wallbash: I did a whole lot of fluffing, blowdrying, and clipping. I even bought a pic (with the fist, of course).

Yes, that's it! Weak arse fine strands :nono::lol:. I've been fluffing all day. I don't have a pic so I've been using a regular comb to fluff the roots. I need to go buy one asap. Might do it tomorrow after work.

I always describe my hair as 'fatigued', like 'tiiiieeeeeed' (not "tiRed"). :nono:

Get you a pic, girl, and do it when it's mostly dry (but of course, only at the roots). :yep:

I think cutting more layers when it gets longer or using less Eco Style gel would do the trick.

This YouTuber managed to make her hair thicker with shorter layers. Perhaps you can do the same at a longer length.

Good luck!
