Hair dye help!

Hey ladies!! I've been dying to dye my hair for years.. I'm a 4b relaxed/texlaxed. Hair health I would rate a 8.5/10. No breakage over 90% of my head with a bit of trouble with retention in the front edges of my hair. No dryness. Made it to APL this year after BC to 3 inches in 10/2011.

My current natural color is dark brown with golden natural highlights ( even before the relaxer , but the relaxer probably made them brighter).
I'm looking to achieve a lighter more caramel golden hair with maybe even copperish ( penny color) highlights.

I don't want to ruin my hair though. I don't use a lot of heat nowadays and I do occasional weaves . I'm afraid of dryness or that crunchy looking hair. I would dye twice a year.

What's the best brand of dye for my hair? Or just what kind of permanent dye have you guys had good experiences with. Here are some pics of my hair from this year.

If you're looking to change your base color AND add highlights, those are two separate processes that are not for the meek (or weak haired!). I can advise you on one or the other, but if you have decided you def want both, best to go to a professional to achieve the desired results.

Yes, I would go to a colorist. Its winter and I would wait until spring since you won't have to cover head. Deep condition and moisturize you should be okay. although coloring is drying and relaxing. I hope it works out.

What should I use to change my base color? When I say highlights I guess I just mean that I don't want my hair to come out monotone looking, but not actual streaks.

Thanks guys. Any tips and product advise much appreciated :D
