G_d vs. Science

G_d is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him, "Lord, we don't need You anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what You did in the beginning."

"Oh, is that so? Tell Me..." replies G_d.

"Well," says the scientist, "we can take dirt and form it into the likeness of You and breathe life into it, thus creating man."

"Well, that's interesting. Show Me."

So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil.

"Oh no, no, no..." interrupts G_d, "Get your own dirt."

who is G_d? :ohwell:
Some people are uncomfortable spelling God for various religious and personal reasons. Mainly Jewish and very conservative/orthodox folks.

There may be other reasons, but those are all that I know of.

Thanks Strawberry Q. I had to go look that up, because I'd been curious as to why that was. Jews were very afraid of blaspheming the true name of God and even now they are careful in using the substitute names even.

The words God and Lord (Adonai) are often written by many Jews as G-d and L-rd as a way of avoiding writing a name of God, as to avoid the risk of the sin of erasing or defacing the name. Any Hebrew name of God is forbidden to be erased. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_God_in_Judaism#In_English

Interesting read. Who knew a joke would get me to reading about Hebrews, Judaism and the Torah!
