I ran across this documentary on Youtube about the history of African American Hair. How we came to use relaxers, grease, be ashamed of our natural hair and whatever else.

It is very informative! I learned a lot by watching it and i just wanted to share it with you ladies. I really hope you enjoy :)

this was the original "Good Hair"
interesting watch

I remember my Mother telling me that she had a falling out with my Dads sister because she kept insisting that she pinch my nose to make it straight.

Thank you so much for uploading this. It's given me an even bigger boost of encouragement. I can't wait to reach my goal and flaunt my natural hair.

I'll be 3 years into my post in November. I can't believe it. Woohoo! :trampolin

I watched all of it, they made black people seem so ignorant and sad to say I hear comments today just like that in the videos. "Ooo, your daughter hair is so nappy, she need a relaxer, better yet a softener! She got that Zimbabwe looking hair". I heard that this summer from a neighbor's family. I was so mad I walked away, I can't comment on that, I would probably go off. Too me any hair dry doesn't look right, whether its kinky, wavy or straight. I feel any hair moisturizer is beautiful. I'm not going to lie, I use to think kinky hair wasn't attractive but when I learned about moisturizing and sealing and I noticed majority of black people seal and don't moisturize (using grease) I understood why I didn't like kinky hair. But when I saw moisturizer kinky hair it looked so much attractive. When my mom use to do my braids freshly it would look all fresh and moisturized (grease gave the illusion of being moisturized)but by the second week my hair was dry looking and unattractive. I don't even like how a white person's hair looks when freshly washed, it looks like a straight cotton ball, I like the day old hair because it has moisture and sheen but of course they have to wash to prevent lice.

Thanks OP, I really enjoyed this. Never heard of this before and I will definitely share with others. Can anyone tell me where I can view the rest of the movie? Part 6 cuts off before the movie ends. I have tried searching to no avail.
