Default How do you clean LV handles?

I have a Louis Vuitton bag and the handles are a little dirty. Is there anything I can use to clean the handles without destroying the color of the handles(light gold patina)???

I've carried my LV bag 4 times (and I've had it over a year)

I have carried mines maybe 10 times...but my hands always end up damp, or it rains . The handles are still light, but are a little stained.

    Thanks for the info!!!

Too funny!!! WHen I saw the title, I was thinking LOVE HANDLES. So I said in my head, just a little soap and water like the rest of your body and secretly wondered why you couldn't figure it out

not sure if the link that was posted helped you out, but.............the answer is they can't be cleaned. they are made of "vachetta leather" this is leather that naturally tans with time- plus from oil,and sweat from your hands plus natural elements even the sun help "tan" the leather. so actually it's suppose to darken, maybe I'm just old school but I think it gives the bag "character".

Right! That dark color is a sign of a real LV bag. I've seen counterfeit ones practically falling apart with light handles.

yep, I know it darkens, but I had a couple of scuffs and wanted to know if I could get them out w/o damaging the handles. But they are not that bad where they can really be noticed. I am just a perfectionist.

    Thank you!!!

My mother says the same thing, even though it's suppose to darken to her after awhile they look "dirty" (we're talking about a clean freak here so) she said that she was gonna go to the store and have them give her new handles. Not sure if it's that easy so maybe you can call and find out.

I think you can purchase new handles, but you would have to ship it to the LV factory and let them do it. I think I have seen someone with a refurbished vintage bag. It looked great. Dunno how much it costed though, but when I get to that point I will think about it

I guess I'm an odd ball because I couldn't wait for the handles on my LV bag to get darker...I would put oil on my hands and leave my bag out in the sun on purpose...I hated those light handles, it makes the purse look fake to me

I had a few stains on my handles when it was new but they faded as the leather started to oxidize...I think you should just let the stains fade on their own...

Yeah, thats what I am doin. I saw this girl with a murikami(sp?) speedy, and the handles were tow UP. The bag was a fake cause the handles were still light and thread coming out of them and all that. I felt like such a snob, cause I was so sick. I just hate ugly, beat down lookin' purses, I don't care what kind they are. I have given my friends bags of mines, cause I couldn't take it.

I don't want to rush the oxidization, but they are getting there nicely. The marks are not really that obvious.

It may sound crazy, but I use 2 things to clean my vachetta. I use, baby wipes, YEP baby wipes! I use Huggies. I clean the handles gently, stroking in one direction. It doesn't darken the patina at all, in fact it dries to the same color....just now the handles are cleaner. I figure if a baby wipe is soft enough for a babies' bottom, then it's probably okay for my vachetta. The other thing I use is Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. This is used only on my older bags that already have an established patina. I pull a little piece off and gently stroke in one direction and let dry. Using the Magic Eraser does tend to make the handles dry and dull so I follow up with a leather protector. I use Wilsons Leather Protector, in the aerosol can. Just so yall don't think that I'm trying to have you ruin your purses, here is a pic of my purses that I have used both the baby wipes and Magic Eraser on.

I have used this technique on the Luco Tote in the back left and the Saumur on the back right, and lastly on the Salsa in the right front. I haven't had to clean the handles on the others yet, but I have protected them with the Wilsons. Hope this helps!!

I dont have any tips but I wanted to ask SpicedTee can I have one? But I do like the look of darkened handles, definitely the difference between fake and authentic.

Thanks Ladies! I luv my bags!! Maybe a little too much, says DH! I am a member of a purse forum and they add fire to my obsession so Imma have to leave that board alone before I get in trouble with my man! Oh, one more thing, don't use baby wipes with any type of oil in them. Like one of them has shea butter, that's a no-no because it deposits oil and darkens your patina.
