Check in please. I see a lot of people are afraid of aphogee so I think this thread may help them out or give info on how to use it.


What kind of shampoo do you use before Aphogee?
Aveda Detox, a clarifying poo, followed by Aveda DR.

How often do you use Aphogee?
Last time I used it was a few mos ago, I want to start back using it but adding Humectress afterwards. Last time I didn't use the right conditioner and my hair was too dry.

What kind of conditioner do you use AFTER aphogee?
I am going to use Humectress mixed with honey and oils and Humectress as a leave-in too.

Why do you use Aphogee?
To help my hair stay healthy and prevent breakage, preferably a week after I relax.

How do you do you Aphogee (ex: under a dryer, under a plastic cap, whatever)?
I let it dry hard under a hooded-dryer

How long after it dries hard do you let your Aphogee stay in?
About 20-30 minutes

Once you rinse your Aphogee what do you do next?
Apply my conditioner, under a heat cap for 30 minutes.

Will you recommend Aphogee to anyone? Why or why not?
Yes I would, it may be a last resort to some people before cutting.

yes if they knew what they were doing, because it helps reduce breakage, but i would recomend emergence to someone who knew nothing about taking care of their hair, because its easier to use than aphogee

Yes, it's great at stopping breakage due to damage.

Thanks for this thread, MizaniMami, because I'm one of those people who's afraid of Aphogee. :lol:

I O.D.'d on Aphogee a couple of weeks back (two applications in two weeks, because I'm new at this, and did not know it was to be used only every six weeks! :eek: ), and am trying to correct that right now. I don't plan on using it again until after the first week in June, after I self-relax my hair.

Keracare Creme Humecto.

Why do you use Aphogee?
To build my hair up before a relaxer and to maintain its protein balance... I dont use any other strong proteins.

I use my blowdryer to dry it. Dont use plastic caps!

How long after it dries hard do you let your Aphogee stay in?
Ummm... like 2 minutes. lol. Is this wrong?

Yes I would, it is a cost effective, strong protein.

because i dont use heat often on my hair i use it after a spell of heat to prevent damage so i would say that is every two months.

any moisturiseing co im using at the time- i think iv found my staple-jason rosewater:p

Once a month by itself. Sometimes I mix it with Emergencee to switch it up.

Keracare Humecto used to be by Aphogee follow-up but I'm out.
So now I'll use what's left of my Mizani moisturefuse, then *maybe* switch to Aveda Deep Penetrating Hair Revitalizer

I use heat EVERYDAY, I have a super relaxer and highlights!
So I need to repair all the damage I do.
Aphogee and Emergencee have really helped!

Sit with my hair uncovered under a hooded dryer

Anywhere from 5-30 mins depending on my schedule or whatever household chores I need to get done while I leave it on.

Once you rinse your Aphogee what do you do next?
Condition under the dryer for about 15-30mins depending on how much time I have

Will you recommend Aphogee to anyone? Why or why not?
If you can take the smell and the dripping - it works wonders. Aphogee, IMO, is more strengthening than Emergencee but it takes a lot of work.
I've also used Aphogee and a rinse on the same day with great results.
Directions for rinsing on the same day are on the bottle!

After aphogee, I shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo to remove the excess. Followed by a mild protein conditioner and moisturizing conditioner/deep conditioner.

I use it to strengthen my hair or prevent breakage after a touch up or color job.

After applying aphogee, I make sure my hair is not touching anything then I go under hood dryer for 15-20 minutes without a plastic cap.

About 5 minutes.

I shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo followed by mild protein conditioner and moisturizing conditioner/deep conditioner with or without heat.

Will you recommend Aphogee to anyone? Why or why not?
Yes, it is an excellent product to strengthen and prevent hair breakage. It is a live safer if it is used properly.

I have used ORS Replenishing Pak, Giovanni and Porosity Control before. never had any problems.

Aphogee is one of the best products i have ever used. i think everyone should use it. i will never give it up.

I use either a clarifying shampoo followed by a moisturizing shampoo...or I use the moisturizing shampoo alone.

How often do you use Aphogee?
I use it every six weeks like clockwork. Sometimes I can tell when the six weeks are up because that's when I have noticed short, broken hairs {not anymore though}.


What kind of conditioner do you use AFTER aphogee?
I currently use Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner. In the past, I have used Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner mixed with Jason's Natural Sea Kelp Conditioner or the Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner alone. I now incorporate Roux Porosity Control, if possible {mixed with the moisturizing conditioner of my choice or alone after I've rinsed the moisturizing conditioner out}.

I use it to prevent breakage.

I apply it all over and lightly comb through with a shower comb for even distribution. Afterwards, I sit under the dryer {no plastic caps} for 20-30 minutes or until it's very hard.

How long after it dries hard do you let your Aphogee stay in?
I only let it sit 1-3 minutes or however long it takes for me to walk from where the dryer is located to the shower for rinsing.

Once you rinse your Aphogee what do you do next?
I apply the moisturizing conditioner(s) of my choice and then place a plastic cap over my hair. I let it sit for an hour or so without using any heat.

Will you recommend Aphogee to anyone? Why or why not?
No, not really. Most of the people I know are not interested in doing anything "extra" for their hair. If someone is genuinely interested in the quest for healthier hair, then I might suggest it to them if it seems as if they need it.

Aubrey Organics HoneySuckle Rose. Very heavy and moisturizing.

To combat any adverse effects of relaxing

Yes, But ONLY IF THEY FOLLOW DIRECTIONS PRECISELY!! IT CAN BE TRICKY! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IF YOUR HAIR IS NOT BREAKING!!!!

Yes I would, as long as you atleast follow the directions on the bottle to a "t" you shouldn't have a problem.

Yes and no. I recommend it to people who listen otherwise I don't even mention it. If a none listening person asks my advice, I tell them to use Motions CPR something that can do a little less damage than aphogee if used on a regular basis. I know people who honestly think that you can do an aphogee treatment every week and still have hair.

-dpr-11 (qp) mixed w/ honey, jojoba oil, almond oil,a bit of shea butter, and a couple other conditioners. I do a deep tx w/ heat for about 1 hr. then I leave the conditioner on for a few more hours under a cap, while doing chores and stuff.

-initally I started using it to help my hair absorb the color. It's really good to use before coloring svc. Then after the blonde, I had a lot of split ends showing upw/ in the 1st 4months of the color. I was using it to slow down the split ends, till I could cut them all off, and prevent any further dmg as well. it's worked well. I have cut off 99% of the color,and my hair is getting back to normal

-if you are having breakage/splitends issues, this will help you out if used properly. It will slow down additional dmg from occuring till you can CUT OUT ALL THE DMG ENDS, OR AREAS. This will not "heal" your hair. I will buy you a tiny bit of time, till you start the cutting process. You can either cut off dmg, or you can let the dmg stay, and it will break off, ruining all your hair. I like to stop it asap. therefore I cut. :D

It doesn't say to, but i like using a clarifying poo b4 protein treatments to make sure that all the buildup is removed so I can get the best out of the treatment. Plus it's good to make sure you use a clarifying poo that doesnt' strip the hair of moisture, like Nexxus Aloe Rid it leaves my hair still feeling moiturized.

Thanks for the posts ladies! I've been using the little Aphogee 2 min reconstructor. I keep eyeing the "big" one for months but have been too afraid to try it. I think I'll try it a week before I relax.

this is exactly what i needed. my hair is experiancing some breakage when its wet it is very elasticy even tho i dont do extreame moisture type treatments ... anyway i have slpit ends and i have never tried this b4... i will admit i am afraid of protien overload,..


question for anyone who may have more experiance with natural hair. i am planing on washing my hair either tonight or tomorrow, anyway its pressed now so it sustained alot even more cuz i was wearing it curly for 2 days then jus combed thro it dry and pressed it out...(i know i was bad :confused: )
anyway my question is should i do the treatment tonight with baking soda to clarify and HH as a conditioner, or should i wait untill next week when i plan on washing it again to strighten out (press)???

any suggestions on when the best time is to apply this ???

Since my hair is sweeping shoulder length I DO have a problem with it sticking to my shoulder :mad: I'm always nervous that it will stick to my shoulder - get hard and break:eek: if I move my head. Anyone have that problem?

I love my results and I'm not even sure if I should be concerned.. I work so hard to lose hair for something so stupid.

From reading some of your posts, am I safe to assume that since I dont have a relaxer, I wont really need to do an Aphogee treatment? I bought some 2 min reconstructor but its sitting here collecting dust cuz I'm scuured to use it. I wont if its not really nessesary.
