Castor Oil Question...

I have a brand of Castor Oil that says it's all natural and unrefined, but it's not black, it's a dark yellow color. It's called Dark Castor Oil (by a brand called "Okay"). My question is what is the difference between unrefined black castor oil and unrefined castor oil? Is it the press? Are there different kinds of castor beans? My oil is very thick in consistency, whereas I've read that black castor oil is thinner. Does anyone use unrefined castor oil (regular) as a part of their routine?

Hi there muffin,

I use this brand of castor oil. It's 100% natural, organic and unrefined.

It is very thick. Black castor oil comes from the seeds (I think) and golden castor oil comes from the flower.

I have yet to use the black castor oil. The golden one works fine and leaves my hair feeling so soft. It lasts forever too. I use it in my routine

Thanks for the info :). For the life of me I couldn't understand why two kinds of unrefined castor oil could be completely different colors, lol. I like my castor oil as well. I thought I didn't like it, but I realized I only like it on DRY hair, not for wet sealing. Makes my hair feel soft and moisturized :yep:. I trust this brand because I've been using it and it hasn't made me break out in hives. I used refined coconut oil once and :nono:. Broke out in lots of itchy bumps. Thanks again :D.
