Default Organic Root Stimulator Pineapple Enzyme Demi Perm

Any updates on this product yet? I searched the threads, and it looks like everyone was waiting to get some more info on this product. I know it's hard b/c I don't think you can purchase it or get info unless you're a stylist. I saw it in the BSS today, and it peeked my interest again, but I didn't get to ask any questions b/c they were really busy. (The girl in the front didn't know anything, and the stylist was doing hair in the back.)

I must say though, I'm VERY skeptical of products that claim to straighten the hair w/ out chemicals. I'm sure we all remember the "Rio Hair" fiasco of the early 90's. I hear some of those women NEVER grew their hair back!!! Anyways, someone please give an update if they've used this, or been able to get some useful info.

Sorry, with the Demi-perm, they have to use a lot of heat to get it straight, I visited the afro hair and beauty show here in London and attended a hair seminar by ORS, they showed the "After" results of the product, applied to young girl of 13, it looked great similar to relaxed hair, but the stylist has to use a blowdryer, in conjuction with pressing comb or flat-iron, it lasts until the next shampoo, I suppose it is convienient if you want to temporaily wear straight hair. However if you want to wear it straight all the time, IMO I would'nt recommend it because of the intense heat and increased risk of heat damage. I have a four-page information leaflet on demi-perm I'll try and post it.

    Thanks den1,

Any info you have would help. I really want to know b/c my mom was considering it for my little sister, who's never had a perm. I don't like the sound of it though....

Is it more heat than normal straightening?

    Hello DDhair
You asked: Is it more heat than normal straightening?

IMO Yes it is, especially if you want to sport straight hair on a regular basis, that is excessive usage of heat. If you decide to wear, straight hair only once in a while I don't see the point in buying this expensive product, it only lasts until the next shampoo, so might as well stick with conventional heat styling products and tools.

I was asked by a hair salon to be a model for this product and I refused, I'm not compromising the health of my hair for a product that claims to naturally straighten, after a few applications. Sorry for sounding so skeptical, its just my opnion.

Ayanapooh: Sorry, I tried to send the information to your email address, but I received an error message stating that the system was unable to find the address, do you have another email address I can send it too thanks?

I haven't a clue, I've never tried it. However, the Demi-perm contains natural pineapple enzymes to temporaily soften the proteins in the hair, without breaking down the disulphide bonds like chemical relaxers.

I have actually tried this product on my daughter's hair. It is on sale to the general public at one of my local beauty supply stores for about $50 per kit. It is nothing like Rio or Copa; it is simply a press n' curl system similar to D'Low's system (some of you may be familiar with this). It is not meant for relaxed or texturized heads, only natural heads. My daughter has rather thick 4 a/b hair.
First, you shampoo. The shampoo left my daughter's hair noticeably softer and more manageable. Then, you condition. The conditioner continued the softening process. I could even comb through my daughter's hair with a wide tooth comb. I let the conditioner sit on her hair for about ten minutes. Rinse out the conditioner, then apply the straightening balm in sections. This is a very thick cream. You have to experiment to find out how much you need to best suit your hair. Anyway, after applying, I braid my daughter's hair in six sections, then use the blow dryer to dry (not straighten) each section. I suppose you could let it air dry if you have the time. After drying, I use my electric straightening comb to press each section. I would imagine that an old-fashioned pressing comb or professional comb would yield straighter hair. After pressing, apply the hair guard spray to each section (this really stinks and detracts from the pineapple smell, but it is supposed to be important). After applying, you lock in this spray by flat-ironing each section or with your curlers if you curl your hair. I suppose you could rollerset under a dryer. This is the only extra heat than I would normally apply. They include some scalp oil, but I prefer to apply my own oil to my daughter's scalp. I've used the system twice in the last month. The results were not as dramatic as the box pictures because I do not use professional tools. It was better than the regular method I use. I think the conditioning properties balance out the use of heat. However, the second time I used it my daughter's hair did frizz up big time, but the weather was unexpectedly humid. I'll use the whole kit to determine whether it really does make a difference. But it is not like Naturalaxer, Jazma, Copa, or Rio. It does not straighten hair. The results only last between wash n' presses and your hair may not look relaxed if you do not use professional tools. If you go to a stylist to apply it, you hair will probably look relaxed, but I do not like how much heat (in terms of temperature) they apply. HTH.
