Thank you ladies for all your kind words and support! The dr did prescribe an antibiotic ointment which I will use and then follow up with vitame E as some of you had suggested. I am going to take legal action. b back with more

I am so sorry. But I know you'll bounce back.((((HUGS)))) And you have all of us in your corner. And you can also use some aloe vera too. When I burned my face a time ago (tried out a strong new facial cleanser on my sensitive skin), this really helped. I don't blame you for taking legal action. If i wanted to end up bald, I wouldn't go to a professional; I'd go buy some nair, rub it all over my scalp then leave it for 2-4 minutes and presto... Im hot just thinkin about it.

Many hugs to you and I'm sorry for what you're going through. I hope the advice and stories others have shared will help you and I hope your hair does grow back despite what the doctor says.:yep:

Ouch! I am sorry this is happening to you. I have had this happen to me before(actually many times) I found LHCF. My hair was stuck to my scalp and at night it hurt like hell when I laid my head on the pillow. My hair has grown back in those patches so yes there is still hope, but you must take care of your scalp and let it heal like any skin wound you would get on your body.

Chances are you had a 3rd degree burn if you are down to the meat, and that is typical of a relaxer to do that to your skin. A lot of people will downplay it but chemical burns are some of the worst burns and should be treated accordingly.

The heavy oils might be hard to rub into a burn and not feel as good, and block out the air to the wound. I would recommend Aloe Vera Gel with vitamin E (already in it or mix it in) because it goes on smoother and is not as thick but helps in healing just the same. Rub that on it and let that stuff breathe, then put some gauze over it or something else to protect it from the wig youll be wearing. If it is all around your edges, get the gauze that comes like tape and wrap it around like you are wrapping your hair. Then put the wig or hat over it. That gauze should only be taken off to clean the wound with cool water and put some Aloe vera and ointment on it and put it back up and leave it alone.:yep:

Please don't pick at it and just leave it alone, picking will make it STAY a scab or get raised and bumpy.

Please don't use rosemary or tea tree oil on the burn because they will BURN and irritate that area. You need to focus on healing the wound before you focus on growing hair back.

I would invest in some Walgreens Scar Gel or some Mederma (which is more expensive) whichever you can afford, and start putting it on everyday or as much as you can.

I think you should sue too!
I second that

When you sue, take pics of you wearing gauze around your head and show them all the nastiness of those crusty burns as exhibits A-Z.

Just keep reminding them all that crust your hair is stuck on is actually fluids that were burned under your skin weeping out.:nono:

Natural again ... this time for good!
Oh my goodness ... I am sorry this happened to you. I've been there ... and done that. I used to put super strength relaxers in my hair because stupid, lazy stylists told me I needed super because my hair was thick, but I digress ...

So, anyway ... yeah ... because I used super, I got horrible scabs on my scalp every time I relaxed. I'm talking EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. The bulk of my hair grew back just fine, but my edges suffered greatly.

I feel your pain, sistah.

All natural!
The dr confirmed that it was a chemical burn and I might suffer from permanent hair loss.Has this happened to anyone else? I know you guys don't know the serverity of my burns but they are pretty bad.I just need a glimmer of hope that even if my hair falls out with the scabs as the dr said that it will grow back. I can't be bald around my edges. I won't be able to cover up a weave or even wear a ponytail. Everyone thinks I should sue honestly I rather have my hair back.

The last time that happened to me, I was told not to let it scab up. Keep rinsing the hair and keep the scalp moist. The scab is what breaks the hair off.

I'm so sorry to hear about the chemical burns. I've been burned so many times over the years, it's a wonder that I still want to get relaxers (or even have hair for that matter!). I believe your hair will grow back. The other sistas have given great advice. I know it's easier said than done but please try not to get you down. ((Sending you a big hug)).

OP she is definitely right. That is why I mentioned the gauze. If you rinse it well with water a few times a day and use the aloe vera gel and some ointment and cover it up it won't get hard, but rather stay soft and not get raised or bumpy or crusty. It may feel/look unpleasant for a while but it will get better underneath. The color will come back, the top layer will peel off, and there will be new skin underneath and hair coming out of it. Just don't pick or let it dry out prematurely because that is how ugly, bald scars happen:nono:

I am sorry that this has happened!

When I was 12 I had a very bad relaxer burn where the hair was stuck to my scalp too and my hair grew back so there is hope. Just baby that area and dont get any more relaxers until it has completely healed. Hugs to ya!

Oh my goodness - I am SO sorry this happened to you. Yes, I've experienced this - when I was younger I would get relaxers put in and I always ended up with a few scabs here or there. I don't relax, but use a texturizer now and I haven't had this issue in years.

Just think positive and do what you need to do to heal yourself:bighug:.

I would definitely consider legal action - just make sure you write down everything that took place and take lots of pictures of your injuries, and keep everything the doctor gave you for your records. Regarding permanent hair loss - even with the scabs that I have had my hair always grew back.

Wishing you quick healing, Hun:Rose:.

Oh, I am so sorry this happened to you. What kind of stylist would be so careless. And, you have every right to sue! I just read in the paper, that some women is suing a casino for he gambling addiction. If that lady can stand up in court, I KNOW you can. I would atleast get my money back. Sorry again, and Im sure your hair will grow back.

Growing up this used to happen to me all the time! My first reaction when I started reading your post was to giggle because I have been burnt several times with the hair getting stuck to my hair and I remember trying to slowly pull the hairs off the scab days after the perm was put in. I never had any COMPLETE hair loss from it. I'm sorry that it scared you so bad!:nono: But I think it will grow back and everyone else seems to have similar stories with the hair growing back in the end. But yea next time you should really put vaseline or another base in your scalp before perming.
I do have a friend who has NO hair on her edges I think the same thing happened to her...but she always pulls her hair back in tight ponytails and braids. So just let the area breathe for a while so it can get better
'

Same here. This used to happen to me as a child on EVERY perm my stylist would do until I thought this was normal. I never loss any hair because of this and never suffered permanent hair loss. The only thing I had to do was slowly peel off the hair stuck to my scalp. Sorry this had to happen to you. Now that I know this isn't normal I have learned to choose more educated stylist.

Thing is not trying to downplay your situation but getting chemical burns from a relaxer is one thing that women should realise that it's a possibility that it could happen. That is just a risk you have to take when using them.

I really don't know how suing them will work. you willingly went to get a relaxer, the stylist didn't burn your scalp the relaxer did. Relaxer applications can be unpredictable. Example, the relaxer may not take (under processing) or the hair can be over processed and many women have had this. Can I sue someone if the under processed my hair?

If the stylist left the chemical on for the right amount of time and you still got burnt who is to be blamed for that? Just asking

Now if the chemical wasn't applied properly then that could be a different story.

The OP wrote another thread previous to this one (http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showpost.php?p=3956787&postcount=11) the stylist poured vinegar on her hair which caused her to burn even more. Usually I would be inclined to agree with you but the stylist was negligent in this case imo and I think you should sue as well OP.

Anyhow, good luck with everything OP and I hope your scalp heals and that everything works out positively. I have nothing else to add other than I cosign everyone else on the advice.

Wow! Vinegar on the scalp/hair BEFORE relaxing. that's terrible. I hadn't seen that post (don't log on often) but that's terrible. I've never heard of this

Where are these stylist getting these idea's from?

That is why I do not go to hairdressers. I can't trust them. I learnt to do my own hair and it's way cheaper and atleast If I don't like the style i did I can take it down and wouldn't have spent any money on it.

Scalp burns is one of the many reasons I stopped using relaxers I couldn't deal with them.

I just hope that the OP has got some good suggestions to help treat her burns.

I've had this happen more than once. :yep: I'm not one to contradict doctors, but I have a feeling that your hair will grow back or not even fall out at all. You'll be alright in my non-medical opinion.

I know I'm weeks late but I agree with this. I've had lots of chemical burns over the years but my hair has never fallen out. Maybe my hair is extra resistant or something? IDK.:ohwell:

All I did was just baby it and not wash for a couple of weeks. When I did, all was fine and all the hair was intact.:yep:

Well everytime I have ever gotten a relaxer my head was burned and my scalp oozed clear liquid that made my hair stick to my scalp. I just got one about a two months ago after almost a year of not getting a relaxer and this time was worse than ever. Not only did I have the typical burning and oozing the first week but Im still having problems with my scalp 2 months later. The dandruff is atrocious and my scalp is sore and itchy. And in some of the sore spot if I scratch those area I can feel liquid seeping out and the hair is falling out. I dont know what went wrong but I will never ever get another relaxer.

That used to happen to me too but only when a "professional" did my touch-ups. It never happens when I do my own (pre LHCF or now). I stopped going to my last stylist for that very reason. She never based my scalp (even if I asked her), and when I would tell her that it was "tingling" or "BURNING"...her response would be "Okay, just wait about 1 more minute":wallbash:...Needless to say, she's less one client now.

Before LHCF, If I did it myself I based my scalp right before my relaxer and that was it.( You would've thought I would have based it before going to the salon, but I didn't...DUH). It also helped that I was in control of rinsing it out. Since joining LHCF, I base the day before and I also add oil to the relaxer as many here do. My last texlax was pain free. :spinning:

OP, I'm sorry that you had to endure this. I hope that you get your just deserves.

I am so sorry that's happened to you. This happened to me about 14 or 15 years ago. I didn't have a bad chemical burn, but there was a quarter size burn in my head and although it slowed my hair growth rate in that area, it has now evened out. When I learned about rosemary oil and other natural oils, I began to make concoctions including that rosemary oil to massage into that area, and my hair has even growth all around at this point. If you stay consistent you'll get results there. So I'd say to look into some natural oils, especially rosemary.

Best of luck!
