Niece is scratching herself bald

I was on the phone with my sis who told me that she's been having trouble with my niece, T, who will be 4 yrs old soon. T seems to have some severe allergic reason going on (to the air maybe?) and has broken out in eczema from head to toe. This has been going on for a few months now.

T scratches herself raw all day long. Most evident is the pic my sis sent me of the back of her head. Neither my sis nor I have had eczema. My nephew had it as a baby but grew out of it for the most part. My sis has bought a bunch of creams but says nothing works and is at her wits end.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Wow, I would definitely take her to a dermatologist, especially being that she's so young. I wouldn't experiment or try to figure it out on my own.

Eeek. I suffer from ecz, as well as my sister, mother and now my daughter. Like your niece, I had it head to toe. I still have it on the scalp, but has disappeared everywhere else.

What stopped it for me as a child is my mom discontinued anything unnatural. She switched to glycerin soaps. Lotions became oils from the kitchen and jojoba (I remember her raving over this as a child over how much better we looked), and she could have bought stock in a cocoa butter factory. Bubble baths stopped because those were irritating it apparently. We just bathed in water. My daughter is mostly the same, though I found something natural at Whole Foods that agrees with her.

Regular shampoos and condish was making me itch and have scabs and clumps of scale in my scalp my whole adult life. As an adult, I found that it is best I use mud-washes for shampoos--no more sudsy stuff. Bakin Soda washes and ACV rinses stopped the itchies too, but I would still get raised skin.

For fun, I started the tea challenge by making spritz leave-in and that pretty much KILLED my scalp itchies. I was using it for falls but what a lovely side effect! I use burdock root and nettle. Put it in hot water like tea I'm gonna drink. Pop it in a spray bottle with a few drops of glycerin. That's it! Scalp eczema gone within a month or so *knocks wood*

My experiences are the suggestions I offer. HTH

Biggest though, is that she take them to the doctor and be sure they are not experiencing allergies to food. I had low grade stuff like this at around 3 years old and we found I have an allergy to certain nuts.

Awww poor baby! I would also suggest going to a dermatologist or getting an allergy test done. DH has the same problem going on and nothing has help. But an allergy test has helped him cut out foods/stay away from things that would cause the eczema to flare. I hope you and your sister can find a solution soon.

my sis had made a derm appt. it's finally coming up on Tues. I told her to ask if she could get an allergy screen test because I know some ppl who have eczema who say that dairy causes their flair ups. Which would be a problem because T is Addicted to her milk. My sis has tried Cetaphil skin cleanser, neosporin body wash for eczema, etc. I told her to try natural oils @DarkJoy like you suggested. Her grandmother suggested bathing her in this tea from Jamaica called cerasee. Maybe I'll send some nettle as well.

Glad that she is getting checked out by the doc. Please let us know the outcome.

I would also suggest oiling her scalp with Jamaican Black Castor Oil. It is known for it's anti-septic, anti-microbial, anti-fungicidal and anti-inflammatory properties and could be of some help with her problem.

Zambesia creme has worked wonders!!! Its only available in Europe but I purchase a few bottles since I suffer from it from time to time. If interested PM me.

@nappygirl I just picked up some JBCO. I forgot it had all those anti-septic properties. I already use it on mu own scalp

I bathed in this special bath oatmeal for my eczema maybe if they havent discontinued it her neice can soak her head in it

My Niece's doctor's appt was today. The derm told my sister T has eczema and gave her a big tub of cream (triamcincolone acetonide ointment 1%) some lotion for her scalp (desonide lotion .05%) and something for her to drink to help the itching (hydroxyzine). My sister forgot to ask for an allergy test (grrrrr), but has a follow-up appointment in a month.

Last week though, I bought some shea butter, dusted off my mom's hand mixer and whipped it with everything i had in my arsenal - coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, castor oil, tea tree oil, aloe vera juice and some Bragg's ACV. My bro brought this mix down to my sis, who used it on T this weekend. She said T didn't each for about 2 hours until she ate dinner - shrimp - so we suspect she might have a shrimp allergy, but that can't be the only thing. My sis used it on her again on Monday, and T came home from daycare saying she didn't itch all day. I've been ordered to mix up another batch...

@beloved1bx my grandson respond well to aveeno baby wash and their lotion cream for eczema and his skin cleared right up his body is beautiful. and for her hair tell her to use the cassia and amla mix on her hair or if she can do nupur henna it will clear it right up. my family scalp problems they had all their life was cleared up with using nupur henna because of all the other herbs mixed in the henna cleared up everything.

@Shadiyah I just bought some amla oil a few Weeks ago. Didn't even think to try that. And that's interesting about Cassia/henna. T already is a handful when it cones to washing her hair. She's not very cooperative, so i'm not sure my sis would want top attempt a whole Cassia treatment, but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

My son had TERRIBLE Eczema. It could have alot to do with.her diet pm me and ill go into more detail
