Re: Military babes support group!
What's up ladies... I'm AD Air Force have been delployed plenty of times. I hate wearing my hair pulled back, so I wear a lot of half wigs and wigs. It's getting hot here though so I may have to go back to pony tails or keeping it pinned up during the summer.

Thank you MissTical! Ft. Lee is not that bad, the post is kinda small and you have to go to Richmond (40mi) to do some real shopping and clubbing. I'm from NJ so I love it here, can go home at the drop of a dime. HTH feel free to PM if you want to talk more.

Re: Military babes support group!
Hey ladies.
I'm prior service Air Force now serving with the National Guard. Trying to do the ROTC thing these days. I just hit 8 yrs in April and I figure I'll ride the full 20 out. Not sure if I wanna go active again but I don't want to wait until 60 to get my retirement.
HAIR STATS!
Hair Type: 3c/4a; Relaxed; SL
Hair Problem: Used to have problems with breakage and dryness but that came about because I heat-styled constantly.
Right now I'm fine. Cowashing fixed my moisture deficiency problems. I don't break anymore..I just have normal shedding.
Goal: Right now I'm trying to make sure that my hair strong and healthy
and split-end free. Just did a henna treatment and I love the results.
So...after this I'm going for length: BSL
>>sigh<<
Just got out of WTC (warrior Transition Course). I was given short notice and couldn't get micros. I don't know how the hell my hair made it through. But I kept it wrapped and my hair sustained minimal damage.
Other than that I'm chillin and going to school.
PS: I HATE the berets!!!! (no offense) I was told the Army always wore berets..? Whatver---someone PLEASE bring back the patrol caps!
I can't wear my hair the way I want to with this dayum beret...
All day long I'm 'petting' the beret! Petting my beret-covered head like a small animal...

Re: Military babes support group!
Is there anyone else here that's experiencing shedding? It's taking it's toll on me, I've stretching and underprocessing, and vitamins. My hair is still shedding and is thin near in & around the crown.
From what I've read it's probably stress. How'da hell do I counter "stress" related shedding and keep my job?
What do ya'll do?

I was shedding pretty badly; have you tried co-washing? This has helped tremendously.

Re: Military babes support group!
^^^^
I hear that garlic helps shedding.
Some in here use a 'garlic shampoo'.
Not sure where they get it from.
Personally--I'd just crush some cloves, dump it in my shampoo or condish and let it marinate all over my head.
But---that's just me.
I've never tried it but I anticipate using it because I shed like a sheepdog in the winter.
Then again--this could be a sign of an internal problem:
Have you changed your diet recently?
Did you switch up your regimen toinclude products you've never used before?
Have you been sleeping? Are you feeling stressed...?

Re: Military babes support group!
I am an active military member in the Air Force. Stationed at Sheppard AFB in TX. Right now though I'm in Kuwait. I haven't been a member long but I can't even start my regimen until I get home (next week...YESSSS!!!) They have none of the products I want to try in this BX (if you even want to call it that). I was always tryin to figure out why my hair wouldn't grow like some of the other females I knew. Then I joined this forum and I was doin all of the wrong things!!! Luckily I have learned the error of my ways. Hopefully by the end of next year I should reach my goal of BSL. *crossing my fingers*

I'll try Co-washing more often, so far I may accomplish this once a month.

I'm reluctant, but I'll try the garlic.Diet, stress and lack of sleep may be culprits. I'll do what I can to improve on these.

Re: Military babes support group!
Hi, I'm going into the Coast Guard active duty and I realized alot of people are wondering what hairstyle would be best for bootcamp. Since bootcamp is all about time management and most last for about two months, the best hairstyle to get would be a sew-in. Make sure your hair underneath is braided with a piece of yarn all the way through. The yarn helps the hair that's braided retain moisture underneath the sew-in. Don't have the hair tracks your sewing onto the braids be supper long. A bob cut that can be neatly pulled back would be fine. Then when you have that day or two of leave time in basic or graduation, you can take it out of the ponytail and wear it down underneath your cap. It's the perfect solution. Also, you can sleep on your hair if you're doo-rag or silk bonnet is taken from you without your natural hair being exposed to the damaging back and forth rubbing up against rough cotton sheets and pillows.
Make sure you pre-poo with olive oil, amla, or castor oil with heat for 15-30 minutes or put the oil on your head overnight with a plastic cap covering your head while you sleep. Shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo, and deep condition with heat with a moisturizing, not protein deep conditioner for 30 minutes. Rinse your hair then do your usual routine by putting in your leave-in conditioner and seal your hair with a light oil like the ones your pre-pooed with. Oil your scalp. (I like to use Jane Carter Solution "Nourish & Shine" or Chatto's "Omega Gold Shea Protein & Vitamin Scalp Conditioning Hairdress"... both are all natural by the way. You want to infuse your hair with as much moisture as possible since you won't have your usual hair oils, shampoo, and conditioner in bootcamp. Also, I don't recommend micros, but it's your preference. They are too stressful on the delicate edges of your hair and they are heavy as heck when you gather them into a ponytail which is also quite damaging. They also tend to keep the scalp and hair supper dry. I don't recommend cornrows because they become frizzy too fast, even with synthetic braid hair added to your own. Also, scalp and hair become dry and sometimes damaged because plastic hair and natural hair don't mix in the strain it puts on hair. If you can't afford a sew-in and must have cornrows braided with extention hair, please make sure its at least human hair. Do all the deep conditioning I recommended with all braided hairstyles whatever you decide. Your hair in bootcamp should be the least of your worries. Happy hair growing.
Oh by the way, Chatto's all natural hair products can be found online at www.chatto.com 1-800-709-1490.
Jane Carter Solution can be found at www.janecartersolution.com 1-877-424-7227.
I also like Salema Cartwright's produts found on HealthyHairJourney.com
Remember, sew-ins are only suppose to be kept in the hair for 2 to 2.5 possibly 3 months at the most, but no more. Pre-poo, Shampoo, and Deep Condition with heat as soon as you take the sew-in, micros, or cornrows down after bootcamp. Aftercare is VERY VERY important. Let your own hair rest for about 2 weeks before you do any type of braiding style or relaxer touch-up again in your hair.

Re: Military babes support group!
^ Great, great great info! Military wives will benefit from this info too if they are stationed overseas with a spouse and don't have access to US products anymore. I wish I'd found this thread while we were in the UK....

Re: Military babes support group!
I am active duty army stationed in Louisiana. I have been natural since March '09. My hair is very coilly, don't really know my hair type. I have issues with dryness and breakage/shedding. I have not found a product yet that cured my dryness. My goal is full APL hair, I am currently NL. This has been awesome information. I am subscribing so I can pass the info on to my sisters-in-arms.

Re: Military babes support group!
I'm active duty Air Force stationed in okinawa, japan Kadena AB. I'm relaxed, finally SL and just started my healthy hair journey mid september. I haven't had too many issues since I've started my journey, but the breakage used to be TERRIBLE and I had dryness issues. Right now everything seems to be going well so hopefully I can keep it going. My goal is BSL.
