Just recently read in a fitness magazine that some of the things we used to do as children was really good exercise and they are making a come back. Anyone consistently jump rope or hula hoop and seen any success with it?

Tea,
Can I tell you girl...when I was in shape I jumped rope and it is very tiring. As a child I did it for hours but with an extra 100 lbs it is very taxing and difficult to do and TIRING! Plus there is a lot more movement then back in the day. LOL I think jump rope is an excellent exercise......as far as a hula hoop...I don't know. U are stationary and all u are moving are your hips-as an aerobic exercise i think that one SUCKS! Jumping rope engages both your arms and legs and you can move while you do it therefore u get an aerobic benefit.

hey Tea this is so funny cause last year I was getting my nails filled and I noticed two ladies hola-hooping in the back on their break. I thought that they were joking but one of them said that she had lost a lot of weight from doing it everyday on her break. she said that they came in different sizes (kids to adults) and you could get them from 5lbs to 25lbs. Anyway I was having a luau party and thought that it would be nice to have a couple for the adults just to play around with so I got three 5lbs and to my surprise a lot of women were like where did you get these and said stuff like girl this is giving me a workout. I gave two of them away for prizes mybe I should break out the other and give it a try? cant hurt anything:yep:

I purchased a weighted hula hoop last month. It says you can loose two inches a month on your waist by hooping 30 minutes daily. I can't report an update as I have not been hooping. However, the woman in my office goes to a curves-like facility and hoops daily. She has gone from a tight size twelve to a comfortable size 8. She attributes it to the hoop. Her granddaughter hoops and was a little chubby. She has lost weight too and that is all she does. The child is 8 years old.

I can be down with hula hoops. Jump rope :nono: All I picture in my head is sagging boobs that might get so long that they'll knock your teeth out. :lachen: Unless you've got tiny boobs, all that jumping has got to add a droop IMO.

When I did Yoga religiously, jump rope was discouraged because of the help it gives gravity in pulling everything downward; not just your chest assets but also internal organs. Inverted poses were encouraged for the opposite effect. Ever since, I've not been a fan of any exercise that involves jumping up and down. Gave up the aerobic classes of yay day for more "gentle" ones like The Step, Turbo Jam (I never do the jumping parts), Stepper, Stair Master, Treadmill walk on on incline instead of run, Ellipse machine, Cycling, Swimming. And I might be wrong but I think this has a lot to do with why after losing weight from size 14/16 to 4/6, I didn't experience the boob sag I was expecting.

So I'll pass on the jump rope. Hula Hoops on the other hand I really believe in. Especially since the day I saw the abs of Lori Lynn Lomeli (http://www.hula-hoops.com/graphics/Lom3b.jpg) on TV.

This makes sense... I wear two sports bras to keep my tatas in check:look:

I really want to look into inversion exercises.
