that you can add 12oz of diet soda to boxed cake or brownie mix instead of the oil, eggs, butter, etc. and bake it like regular? Yes and it's almost a 100 calorie savings per piece of cake or brownie! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

does it matter what type of soda? say sprite/browines or cola?

I've only used brown sodas because I've only made chocolate items! For yellow cakes and angel food--I bet Sprite would be better.

I think the carbonation is what helps the cake to bake properly. It's a little flatter than normal, but not too much and still just as tasty and moist.

Are you replacing all the liquids with soda? In other words, just using the soda and cake mix?

Supergirl, you are one clever girl. Keep the tips coming!

Yes Robin--the soda and the mix and that's it! Actually, I can't take credit for this girl--it's from some of the ladies at weight watchers.

They also do these angel food cupcakes with diet sprite and pineapple--I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a dream the way they talk...

Thanks for the health tip. I am going to try it this weekend. I am assuming you used a regular soda and not diet..correct?

Ok how about I am using this idea right now. I had a box of Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake mix in the cabinet and had the taste for something sweet. So, I used a can of regular soda (Sam's Choice) that my cousin left at my place. I tasted the batter before I put it into the oven (i'm making cup cakes) and it tasted great.

I'll make another post later tonight and let you guys know how they turned out. :)

Ok they are done...and let me say that they are delicious!!! :lick:
The only thing is that they are already sweet...I guess because of the sugar in the soda...so they really don't need any frosting.

Thanks Supergirl!

Yes Supergirl, one of my coworkers made a dessert from out of this. Most of my coworkers are doing weight watchers and she made this for us to eat as a dessert. She used Diet Coke, brownie mix, and then on top she put cherry filling, and low-fat whip cream on it. It was a delicious treat! It was only 3 points for weight watchers. You know weight watcher does the flexible points systems.
