Hi,

Has anyone read this book? I find it really informative and I am trying to incorporate some of her eating suggestions into my daily life. When eating dinner how do you not eat proteins and carbohydrates at the same time. I am so used to eating rice with my meat. Should I eat meat with a salad only?

Any suggestions?

TIA

This sounds like a good book. What you're describing is proper food-combining. I too learned about this from several sources.

For those who may not know, we aren't supposed to eat meat or protein with starchy foods like potatoes, white rice, pasta, bread during the same meal. Most Americans usually do eat this way and it results in gas, indigestion, heartburn, undigested food and obesity. That's why there's so many commercials with remedies for this.

Basically, protein is acidic and will digest best with something alkaline, like veggies and many fruits. Starchy foods (sugars, white rice, white flour, bread, pasta, white potatoes, corn, peas) are acidic and also digest best with something alkaline like non-starchy veggies and fruits.

The reason is because the stomach produce hydrochloric acid to digest the protein and another acid to digest the starches (I forgot the name). When both acids are in there mingling, the problems I mentioned above starts. For good digestion and health, we need to have our stomachs produce one of these acids at a time.

So meat ideally should be eaten with non-starchy veggies like salads or cooked veggies. Fish is more alkaline than acidic (as compared to meats) and can go with rice, for example. If we want to eat a piece of bread, for example, it can be eaten without a problem about 2 hours before or after eating the protein/veggie combo. And eggs are neutral (both alkaline and acidic) and can be eaten with anything.

Yes, this is a good book. She has many suggestions on how to be healthier.

Some of her findings -
1) Organs are the windows to your health
- Tongue - If your tongue has a crack down the middle you have a weak stomach and poor digestion. You lack nutrients, eat more soups don't drink fizzy drinks.
- If your tongue has teethmarks around the sides your spleen is weak and you may suffer from gas and bloating. You should eat more beans, leafy greens, fish, etc
-Head dandruff - consume flax oil daily, selenium, biotin, wash hair with camomille or tea tree shampoo.
- Hands - white spots on the nails is a sign of zinc deficiency eat pumpkin or sunflower seeds.
-Face - pimples on the forehead may indicate that you need to clean out your colon/intestinal area of toxins. Pimples on your cheeks indicates you eat too much cow's milk products, red meats, or saturated fats. You should avoid those products and take evening primrose oil.
She talks about consuming too much sugar and fats and how to avoid being gassy, having bad pms, indigestion, and what foods can reduce your stress levels.

I will post this on the Off topic discussion board since more people seem to read it.
I would like suggestions on how to properly food combine with foods normal to my culture. Wheatgrass and Quinoa are not normal foods in my life.
