Hey, I know that this is not "politically correct" but I need to lose weight for a weight loss contest in my office. It starts on Monday, May 15th and goes until Tuesday, June 13th. PLEASE SHARE ANY AND ALL TIPS FOR FAST WEIGHT LOSS THAT YOU HAVE USED IN THE PAST. 4 of us are putting in $25 each and whoever loses the most wins it all. Since they are all talking smack, I really want to win! I am 5'4 and currently weigh 220..:( If you can recommend any supplements, exercises, programs, foods...etc...please by all means share it with me! Thank you very very much!!! By the way, I know that this is not the most effective way to lose weight and that is should be done slowly, but maybe this will help me get a jump start on doing things right.:perplexed

You can try thr Fat Flush Plan. do a search on the internet and you bwill find the book. It was written by a nurse, I lost 5 pounds the first week, then 2-3 pounds when I stuck with it. Also, lots of walking will help, I lost 10 pounds in one month walking 5-6 days a week for 3-4 miles per day.

Hey plzgrow.....you are doing a wonderful job! We certainly can become buddies....I do better when I am held accountable and when I can share my ups and downs with someone. I plan to start my weight loss program tomorrow. I see that you are in Miami....I will be going there this weekend for a cousin's graduation party and also to her mom's retirement party.

Here is some tips that I learned:
Drink a 1/2 to 1 full ounce for every pound you weigh.
No eating past 7 pm.
5 meals a day.
Try to eat your carb in the am.
No carbs in pm
Split train for maximum burn. Meaning walking or cardio in am and weights in pm or vice versa.
Cut out extra fats, sweets, and oils.
Allow search and bump a thread I posted a while back entitled "Turn up the Heat Challenge". That is a 3 week plan that if followed, you can loose up to 24 lbs in 21 days. Q

I know this will sound very old school *sigh*, but reducing overall caloric intake and exercise works every time. I managed to go from 180 pounds to 142 pounds in 2.5 months under this basic premise. It was a killer, but I did it!!!
By reducing your weekly caloric intake by 3,600, you will lose about a pound (decrease more calories, or increase physical activity and you will lose more).
I totally agree with focusing on decreased carbs and higher protein because protein is a richer energy source (your metabolism will remain higher, longer). Eliminating food high in wheat gluten (which is like sludge in your digestive system) is important. But do eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. Avoid refined sugars which is just empty calories.
Water, water, water...and lots of it!!!
Cardio IS the key for short-term weight loss (at least an hour a day), not heavy-duty weight training necessarily. Why? Building muscle mass may increase your weight somewhat, as muscle is heavier than the body fat you will lose. (This is why I don’t weigh myself but measure inches as my goals.) However, because your co-workers are going by weight alone (not inches), building muscle mass may not be in your best interest if you want to win. DO stick with lighter weight 2-3 times a week for now because using muscle energy burns more calories. Now, because building muscle mass is important to long-term weight loss, after this weight loss challenge, definitely increase your weight training.
HTH and Good Luck!!! :)
I suggest starting out with a detox, like the Master Cleanse (you'll lose weight also), then start eating a healthy diet with lots of "good" carbs like veggies (including raw), protein and good fats like flaxseed oil (which helps burn off fat). Make sure you are drinking at least 1/2 your weight in ounces of water each day.
Stay away from:
all sugar (including fruit juice)
starchy carbs (potatoes, carrots, peas, corn, pasta, bread, rice)
nuts (at least for now)
all soft drinks, especially diet soft drinks
salt and high sodium foods
all processed food (that means make your meals from scratch)
You'll lose weight every day doing this and even more when you exercise (even just walking) 20-30 minutes each day.:)
