I have decided to get back into dance and add it to my weekly schedule. I was wondering if there are any other dancers here and what type of dance do you all enjoy? Jazz is my favorite. And I like NYC classes because you get a good warm/up stretch and tone before you actually work on dancing. I have gone to Broadway Dance in the past.

Are there any other good places in NY/NJ that anyone knows of?

I just joined the Praise dancers at Church. However, I love to Belly Dance. It is a very good work out.

I used to dance a long time ago. When I slim down some more, I plan to start taking some classes. Probably Jazz or if I can find a good hip-hop class, that'd be great. Good luck!

:) I have taken ballet, tap, and jazz since the age of three. I danced in a dance company in jr high and high school and took modern dance in college. I am dying to get back into dance. I hear there are lounges up here in Harlem where you can go and tap or take lessons. I'm not sure what I want to take up at this time but I can't wait to get started

Don't let weight stop you from doing anything that you dream to do. I still have weight to lose as well and it hasn't stopped me. Not even from performing. Any physical activity that we do causes weight to fall off. I promise. And you will be totally beautiful in class...leotards and all...just as you are. :)

The devil is a liar. he loves to take what we feel about ourselves and make it bigger than what it really is or just plain negative.

Weight is only a 'shadow', the beautiful and real you that lies above and beneath and will come forth more and more as you continue following your dreams. You're already shining, so dance angel...dance your heart out and don't allow anyone or anything try to stop you.

Thank you! That was really beautiful, and you are so right. I'm going to look for a class tomorrow! :):):)

I LOVE:love:  to dance. I dance everyday. I took hip hop, jazz and tap classes last year at the Lou Conte Dance studio and loved it. My work and school schedule keeps me from attending often, but I love dancing.

Thanks and girl, don't worry about slimming down first. You see what my ticker says right? LOL!

Wow! You're making a good choice to not only stay in shape but also doing something that makes you happy.

Although I don't live in New York, I do Belly Dancing (both Egyptian and Lebanese Styles); Hula (learning the Culture as well), I incorporate forms of Ballet in Belly Dance, a Dance style which I learned from my teacher.

I will also be learning Tahitian and Polynesian during the summer. The learning never ends and I love it.

Most colleges and communities and health clubs offer many options in Dance. Don't give up on your dream. Our bodies are wonderfully and beautifully created. Dance expresses that. :)

God bless you.

Thank you so much! I really do love dance. I would love to try belly dance one day. And brazilian and salsa!!

Go Girl! No matter what, keep going.

Let this keep you going: That's one of my performance pictures posted in my Avatar. I was making my stage entrance in our Christmas performance. AND I just turned 55 years old, in April.

Yes, dancing keeps me young. And the Loving Grace of God. He gets all of the Glory. I can 'shimmy down' and 'shimmy up' with the best of them.

You see...'the heart of a Dancer never dies...it comes alive with every note of music that we hear and we move to each rhythm and melody even when we are lying still or sleeping.

This is who you are, a Dancer. So Little One, Dance, Dance, Dance... :) "And then, Dance somemore."

God Bless you, Precious one. Your footsteps and your dancesteps are anointed with God's fresh oil.

oh wow that is so inspiring! I am going to class tomorrow for sure!

PeaceLove, go for it, angel. Just go for it :). Don't let age, size, money, clothes, or even 'HAIR' (lol), stop you..

No one knows my age unless I tell them. It's so funny, because I think about it and neither does my teacher or any of my classmates.

Peacelove, you are filled to the fullness of your heart with the Peace of our Loving and All Mighty God, who loves to give His treasures to His children.

One of the treasures is the treasure of life. Whatever is in your heart, live it and enjoy it. Dance angel and don't you dare allow anyone to say that you can't; nor any circumstance.

Little One, Enjoy the life that God has so freely given you and has paid so heavily a price for. He shed His Blood for our Salvation and to also give Him glory for His gift of life. Part of the Glory is in the gifts and talents that we have received from Him. You have the heart of a Dancer...live little one....live it and give God glory with each step in rhytmn and time.

God bless you and you are at "Peace and filled with Love"....:)

oh my that was so beautiful. Thank you so much for that and God bless you too!! :)

Peacelove, there's a dance center called Djoniba, 37 E. 18th St. & Broadway. 212-477-3464. I know they have a website, forgot it though. They have bellydancing, African, Hip-Hop, and some others.

I do salsa and bachata. I never thought bachata would be a work out but it works my legs kinda hard. Salsa is a lso a good workout for the legs. The faster the tempo, the better the workout. Overall I love my dance classes because it's another form of creative expression, and it's just a lot of fun. I highly recceommend taking any dance class.

so odd that this thread was bumped. Just this morning I was thinking of dance classes and the last one I took which had me sore for days. I was SO out of shape. But I am not giving up. I really love dance. I want to take salsa and belly dance classes eventually.

BklynHeart, I am gonna look into the spot you mentioned. Thank you! :)
