I stopped using bc pills six months ago.. for no particular reason other than i did not like the idea of putting synthetic hormones into my body any longer. Prior to using the pills my face was pretty clear and the pills kept it flawless, but since i've been off my skin is completely out of wack. I have a light complexion and anytime i get a pimple, whether i mess with it or not, it leaves a scar. I am soo tired of this bumpy (like heat rash almost) scar ridden complexion. I miss my clear skin?

I've tried acne free and proactiv and they dry my skin out horribly. My skin is very sensitive by the way... any product suggestions? or advice

Hi beana,
I too have stopped taking bc pills and my skin is still beautiful. I keep the same regimen I had before the pills and during the pills as well. I use dove unscented soap 4 days a week, the other 3 days I just rinse with warm water and then cool water to close my pores. 2 times a week I use a scrub to take off dead skin cells. Everyday I use Oil of Olay and a little jojoba oil (like a drop or two with my moisterizer). I don't wear makeup but I do use Covergirl tinted moisterizer after I moisterizer with Oil of Olay. I'm sure the MSM that I take has a lot to do with the way my skin looks now too! It's wonderful!

I use a little mascara and some lipstick or lip gloss and that's it!

I got this regimen from a dermatologist who told me to do this when my skin was breaking out like crazy. I didn't think it would work, but it did, to my surpise!

I hope your skin gets back in check. I know how you feel, its not a good feeling.

Blessings....:)

Beana- I noticed as I age, my skin changes. The last year I have been dealing with more breakouts. I started washing my powder brush more frequently. I also wash my face twice a day and use moisturizer. I started exfoliating more often too.

I would suggest using a moisturizer with spf. It will help your acne from not forming black heads.

I have been having crazy breakouts too lately...I don't know what the cause is. I know if I drink too much soda I will break out. I have been eating alot of sweets lately too. I hate to not do or eat certain things because I know I will break out. It could be just an age thing like Countrygal said..it's so hard to get the marks to fade after I get a breakout which is depressing as well. I have used Proactiv but it really didn't give me the results I wanted. I usually use Tea Tree liquid soap and it doesn't dry my skin but I don't really know if it is helping with the breakouts. I am using this soap now that has 10% benzoyl perioxide in it hoping it will clear up what I have going on right now. I did get some Bye Bye Blemish to do some spot treatments. I think it is working pretty good.

okay your not the only one that has been having some crazy issues with skin...and i think ive went from being a hair junkie over to being a makeup and skin junkie now...because i find myself out searching and looking for products when i dont need the products when all of them are basically have the same ingredients in them....and not using all of the product before moving onto something else...the only fading/moisturizer that works for me is glyquin without glyquin my skin is totally a mess...now if i could find something that could cure my little breakouts of pimples..and im taking the antibotics that the dermatologist perscribed me and it has stopped working for me...and i drink alot of water, eat healthy and workout..but im still getting little red pimples that are turning into dark spots...i even got a pimple and dark spot on one side of my face that i never ever had one at before(i always referred to this as my good side)...im tossing my makeup sponges and doing everything im suppose to...ive tried retina, differin gel...

Its gets to be crazy because your mind can become constantly on your skin and trying to make it better just like your hair. And then you see people with not one blemish, mark or nothing and think WTF!!!! hahaha

Thanks ladies for all your suggestions! I really appreciate getting advice from my fellow women of color (I consulted a white derm and this guy was sooo clueless and wanted to put me on everything under the sun!)... I'm seriously considering getting back on the BC pills, but i'll try the natural hormone balancer as Star recommended. I definitely think my acne is mainly triggered by a hormonal imbalance.

bluediamond: I'm becoming a skincare PJ too! So far, nothing has really helped aside from the Mary Kay benzoyl peroxide, and its faaar from a miracle cure.

after i try the hormone balancer i'll post a review

Star is this a pill? Is there a specifc brand you can recommend?

I called the health food store and they weren't too helpful, the woman kept thinking i wanted info on menopause pills.
