Hello Ladies,
I have a question...I'm really trying to lose this extra weight I've gain this past year 35 to be exact:mad: . I have a co-worker that lost 30lbs in two months by doing the Akins diet and working out. My question is has any one had success with this diet.. last week I attempted this diet and lost 3.5lbs. I believe I can achieve this goal and figure after two months I'll introduce carb back into my diet. However, My plan is not to eat carbs after 2pm.....I believe I can make this a new life style change.....ladies what are your comments:confused: ?

I had a lot of success... until I went back to eating carbs, and the weight came right back as well, and then some. Now, I probably wasn't eating the best carbs in the world, so it may work if you stick to quality carbs when you're done with Atkins. But for me, it was just an impossible plan to stick to. I couldn't eat like that forever.
Each person is unique. It works for some, but not for all. It also has many challenges, and knowledge is definitely crucial. Everyone can benefit from reduced carb intake, as most of us already overdo it. For the carbs you do eat, ensure that they are complex carbs (which are necessary for body function). Ensure you're getting sufficient water, as much of the initial weight loss is water. Also ensure you're getting enough calcium (and other minerals) which is leached in the process.
But please read up on it.
Best wishes to you!
(Oh yes, I did lose weight on this plan)

I like South Beach better than Adkins. It does not seem as restrictive. I actually enjoy it and have plans to return to it the first of May.

low carb is the one thing that i have ever stuck to long enough to know that it works for me. unfortuantely for me, i am a self-sabotageur. the first carb-conscious diet i was ever on was the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. i did plan D i beleive which was two meals a day. the first one was some protein and veggies. the second one, i ate whatever i wanted as long as i had a salad before hand and it was all eaten within an hour. I would have rice, cookies, a slice of cheesecake etc. i lost 5 lbs a week like clockwork. i lost 21 lbs in 4 weeks.

I did the low carb diet last summer. I shed 22 pounds in around 5 weeks. You have to practice portion control once you stop or you will gain it all back. So far. I have kept the weight off for 9 months.

Thanks again ladies for all of your comments..:)My carb intake was no more than 22 net carbs per day. No rice, no cereal, no fruit. Just basically meat and lower carb veggies.

I accidently did a variant atkins a couple of years ago and it worked for the most part. But like someone said - sorry I forgot the name :( - that weight found its way back and brought some friends.
I've been doing weightwatchers for the last couple of (four) months on the full choice plan (points plan) and I've lost just over half of my total aim. The southbeach sounds like a good idea I think. On my WW I stick to my points and try to keep the carbs low and only eat good ones when I do, also I stick to the leaner meats. Carbs are by no means my friends, I was in a month long rut because I was eating my points in wholemeal/wholewheat toast with honey lol. But mostly it's common sense and the southbeach makes the most of that. One thing I do with my WW tho, is I dont give fruit any points, unless its wholesome like a banana cos I found I wasnt eating fruit because I didnt want to "waste" my points on it.
You can try the atkins but if your feeling sluggish or dizzy and unwell u should go for the variant southbeach i.e. lean meats, fresh seasonal fruit and veg, wholewheat everything, nothing processed and some common sense. Also watch your portion sizes. Since I came back from America last year after 4 months of uni out there my portion sizes where messed up. Little 5'2" me was eating the same as my 6'2" bf. No wonder my a$$ was so fat! (not in a good way) I do miss that Applebys chimecheesecake tho :(

I lost 30 lbs in about 2 months. But I swear it came back in faster than I lost it. This was a few years ago when Atkins/low carb got really popular. Now I follow Body For Life/Eating for Life which is what they call moderate carbs (about 40% of my calories are carbs). I try to make them healthy--fruits, veggies, sweet potatoes, brown rice. I think we all need some carbs... you just have to pick the right ones. Good luck!

Losing weight on low carb diets is easy, maintaining the loss is the hard part. Imagine working hard for say..2 months to lose the weight and having 1 cheat day and gaining like 5-6lbs overnight. It's that easy. A lot will be water gain but trust me...it's a crappy feeling. I say lower the carbs but don't LOW CARB if that makes any sense.

Yes that made sense to me.....The problem is (I want a quick fix)....I going lower my carb intake. I'm not going to totally give up on my carbs. I will however not eat carbs after 3pm...Lets see how this work....thaks again for all of the comments...please keep them coming...the more I learn and know the better I'll understand it....
I did low carbs, Atkins. I lost bout 30lbs too and if you do the 1st phase correct( which is the strict phase) than you'll lose up to 14lbs in that 2wk period( everyone loses different pounds and @ a different pace, for different reasons) I kept it off for over a yr (even with eating some bad carbs, but got carried away with it and eventually gain some back. I never went into the other 3 phases, which are suppose to teach you how to keep the weight off, You can stay in the 1st phase as long as you want( slow down for the last 10 lbs Dr Atkins suggests, but I wasn't goona do that. Any way the 2nd phase lets you add good other carbs 5 grams a week but you have add 'em the way he has 'em listed. Well you keep adding weekly til you see yourself gaining this lets you know how many carbs (eventually bad or good, but you wanna still stick with more good) you can take in before gaining too much then you're suppose keep carbs @ that level. Sorry to get so detailed but it's hard to just tell do low carb Atkins style w/o giving you lil more idea how it works, cause when I was told (by ppl who had never tried it they made it seem as if there were NO CARBS). So I got the book and read it front to back so I knew exactly what I was gonna be doing. It was very detailed about everything you need to know. So regardless of which low carb plan you chose, pls read all the info you can get hold of.
Whenever a person goes on a diet and stop eating certain foods to lose the weight, but starts back to the same eating habits you will gain it back and maybe then some if you over do it. No matter what diet plan. No offense to no one, I learnt hard way but I'm getting back on the Atkins low carb, and once I've lost the weight I want, I plan to continue into the other phases so I'll know how much I can have so I can keep from gaining.
Good luck in whatever you chose to do. Oh!Did you see the "Get fine for summer06 challenge"?
