The one black dermatologist in my area isn't accepting any new patients so I called the National Medical Association 1-888-662-7497 to get a referral to black dermatologists within driving distance.
Have you ladies heard of these:
Dr. Richard Gibbs or Dr. Robert Jackson in Memphis
Dr. Norman Walton in Birmingham
Dr. Errol Quintal in New Orleans
Thanks in advance!

I've met Dr. Walton a couple of times at meetings of the Magic City Medical Society (B'ham's local NMA chapter). He's been very cordial the few times I have spoken with him, and based on the success of his practice, I assume he's a very good dermatologist.

Thanks for the recommendation. That's something to think about. I wonder if I can even get an appt with him.
Everyone in my network is either not taking new patients or the first appt is in August. :(:(:(
PLEASE LADIES, any more recommendations?

 These are the only 3 black derms in the South?? Wow! Is the one in New Orleans even still there? I wonder how often they update their list. He could be in Cali by now.

I've been to Dr. Quintal. I don't know if he's still there, but he's friendly enough. The wait to see him was MONTHS, though. Being like the only one that takes Medicaid and low income families. I made my appointment in July and didn't get to see him until early December of that year. Needless to say, I stopped going.

i'm having a serious dilemna.
i really want a black dermatologist b/c i want someone who KNOWS our skin.
i have a few *light patches* on my face that haven't cleared up.
my stupid arse decided 2 use a lighting creme on my neck but still had some on my hands when i applied my eye creme.
BIG MISTAKE  i had huge light splotches under my eyes for a few months and looked like a REVERSE RACCOON for awhile.
so i started using Women of Color microdermabrasian @ home followed by Creme De la mer creme.
worked well for two places, but not this one leftover spot on the side of one eye.
there's also a high-end dermatologist i can go to where i live but it doesn't accept insurance.
First examination facial is $100 before they do any other treatments and the treatments are like $120.
so it's either that or drive to come of the doctors i mentionned before.
what would you do?

I am looking for the same thing. I need serious glycolic peel treatments for these acne scars.

I got my 1st glycolic peel from this place and wish I lived closer so I could keep up the treatments!
The esthecian is named Kathryn Leverette.
I know I am all late seeing this but Dr Robert Jackson in Memphis is the bomb. He is the best I have ever visted. It does take some time to get in to see him so make sure you schedule at least a month or so before you want to see him.
He saved my face!!

I live in Atlanta, GA and my *black* Dermatologist is THE BOMB!!:D
Her name is Paula Nelson. She has many locations set up around Atlanta. Her number is: 770-921-4300. She has a website as well but I can't remember it off the top of my head. I'll post the website when I can think of it, but I'm sure you can google her and find her.
