I just started exercising and I want to remain consistent. I am doing cardio like the threadmill and the elliptical. I want to lose my stomach but I don't want to lose anything else like my butt or hips. Someone told me that I need to just tone I know they say spot reducing is hard or close to impossible but I think someone has to have success with it. Serena Williams has a big butt and it obvious she works out often. I am just concerned because I know a lot of women complain about losing their butt when they are consistent with exercising.

The cardio that you're doing will help to reduce your stomach. You CANNOT spot reduce. If you have a big bottom, trust me, it will NOT disappear as you tone. Add some light weight training such squats if you're concerned that you may lose mass back there. I have a pretty flat stomach and a large behind, so it can be done.
Serena is a perfect example that fitness does not automatically equal flatness:wink2:

I recently lost 55 lbs after my son 8 months ago, I did primarily stairmaster, strength and weightlifting training. For me, when i run (30 min a day) i look tone don't loose butt or hips when I do leg extensions , the butt blaster and stairmaster combined I loose inches around my butt, hips and thights which is what i want to get a toned look all around. do your crunches and remember it's about health.
First of all, congrats on your commitment to fitness and health! That's half the battle right there! Next, keep doing what you're doing, but also add some resistance training such as squats, lunges etc. Building muscle will help retain your bootiliciousness AND help you to lose fat. As you know, spot reduction doesn't work. Also, don't compare your body to others like Serena because each of our bodies respond to diet and exercise in different ways. If you've always had a butt, even prior to any weight gain, it's unlikely that you'll lose it (or at least it will be very hard). We tend to lose fat in the order we put it on. Good luck with your fitness goals! ;)

Two times a week is good for weight trianing. You want to give the muscles you have worked a good 48 hours between trainings. How many, etc.is up to you. VWVixxen started a thread about longer, sleeker legs and has various things you can do. Check it out.I am no good at linking ,but that thread is on this page. Good luck to you!
