Ok ladies, I was watching the news and I saw this report and I was perturbed to say the least. On one hand I was a little put off by the fact that beetles are killed to color our food and make it seem more apealing but on the other hand studies showed that having crushed beetles or carmine in your food (candies, yogurt) was not bad for you and it had anti-oxidants in it. All I know is I an SERIOUSLY considering eating more organic foods from now on...here is the link http://www.newstarget.com/002043.html, please feel free to post your views.

i saw it on the news. im going to look at the ingredients in my food from now on.
There are lots of other weird things in our food, that are disguised by scientific terminology. Carmine is just one of them. For example, many people are turned off by gelatin in foods like jello, yogurt, puddings, etc, because it is made from boiling hog skin and bones and other waste materials from meat processors. So people don't like that concept in their desserts and snacks.
Also, some of these things may be in a few organic processed foods as well. So ingredient reading would be a definite. In fact, I'd hope most of us are already label readers, because there is so much to look out for. Just the trans fats issue alone is enough for me to read my labels. Heck, I read labels for my dead hair, I might as well read labels for my living body! :D

Very good point! Even though I did read my labels before, now I'm really going to be more careful of what I put in my body.I will be adopting more wholesome foods into my diet. I think it's unfortunate that the food industry choose to hide the true ingredients in their food by using chemical names, this is probably why people are get fatter and fatter and don't have a clue why.

The thing is, the FDA allows a certain percentage of "foriegn matter" in our food, especially canned stuff. I was doing a story with the state health department when I found this out...of course, you won't find "mouse hair" or bug parts" on the lables of anything you eat.:eek::eek::eek:
Everytime I think about this, I lose my appetite. :perplexed

Interesting. I'd like for them to look more into that 'grape skin' alternative that they mentioned.
