:( I need some answers..I maybe be over reacting...but one week ago I went to the skinklinic because i working on my 06 makeover...lol! The skin practicioner...(everyone who works there is either a nurse or MD) suggested that I get a series of gycolic peel. She's the perfessional so I said ok. When I left there my skin was glowing and let's not talk about how soft it was. I immediately feel in love. I even bought 4 more treatments for future use...It was a 4 for the price of 3 special which was not cheap 450 but I liked the results and I wanted to make the commitment so I don't fall off post new years resolution.
I even purchased the cleanser and mositurizer. I'm a PJ.
I got the treatment on Tuesday but by Sunday I noticed my face was no longer soft and glowing but dry and flaky..I'm like ok this is the cell renewal process. So I continue on the regime of washing at morning and night and lite mositurizer in AM and a gycolic gel-like mositurizer in PM. The products they recommended. For the first couple of days of dryness I was cool. But now its Thursday...9 days later and I am a flaky mess. The peel I got was only 30% and the future peels will be increased...is this dryness and flakiness normal. I called the clinic back and was told this is normal but I need to be certain because this dryness is crazy. I'm wondering if I can deal with 4 more. My face looks dull and the glow is gone. I need advice help or something...or I may just be tripping because this is my first peel and I don't know what the results should be.

Peeling happens with some people, so its quite normal. Hopefully you're not using a soap based cleanser though which can really dry out your skin.
You're also using a glycolic gel which can dry your skin a bit. (but that should get better as your skin gets used to it)
You may need to follow up with a few drops of jojoba oil after the gel so you don't get as dry.

Arcadian,
Thanks for the advice. The products I am using are those that were perscribed by the practicioner. The cleanser, the gel and the mositurizer. I forget to mention that I stopped using the gel on Tuesday. I'm going back to the clinic tomorrow because the drying is really bad. I hopefully everything worksout.

I agree. I'm guessing the glycolic treatment is still exfoliating, causing the flakiness. Give it more time.

Thanks everyone for the help...
I went back to the clinic today and i was told by the practicioner that the degree of dryness and flaking was not normal. I was advised that it was the cleasner and glycolic gel that they prescribed. Go figured. This determination was made because even my eyelids were affected badly and the peel was not put anywhere on my eye lids or eyes. I was given another treatment to exfolicate the dead skin..they did this in the office and i wont be using the cleasner anymore. They even gave me a refund for the products as well as a new moisturizer. In one week i am to return to them for a follow up. My face is looking better already desipte the fact that it looks like a dove into a bucket of vaseline. I keep you guys posted.

30% glycolic acid can make some people peel pretty bad, but most people won't at all. That also depends on the PH, which I'm assuming was like around 1 or 2. SO I don't know if it was a combo of the cleanser, peel and glycolic gel or just the moisterizer extra gel they gave you
What was the glycolic % on that stuff anyway?but if you were having really bad peeling, say for instance, skin coming off in strips, then its got to be pretty darn strong and they started you on the wrong strength gel.
(btw, I see you were having eyelid peeling..did you get any of gel around your eyes at all? That could have been the cause)
Personally i do not like using glycolic on my face because I do peel more than I want to from it but I can use it other places on my body without any peeling at all. (I use salicylic acid instead)
So, some people will peel from glycolic applied to their face regardless, so she was telling you a itty bitty untruth, but at the same time it was a good idea to go back if you had a lot of discomfort.
At any rate, most people go through a period where the skin has to get used to the acid and will peel more than normal. It can be alarming especially if its accompanied by extreme dryness (some dryness should be expected in the short term)
If you're getting this much peeling from this one I would probably rethink having another done in the very near future.
Definitly keep us posted! Sorry to hear of your horrid time though.

The peelling you get from Glycollc acid is great over time if you have any trouble with dark spots. It will eventually even out skin tone, if you can stand repeated treatments.

Here's a quick update!
After my little experience I wasn't too sure about the GLY peels. After going back to the clinic I used Eucerin's Aquaphor Healing ointment at night. It is very very greasy but after a few nights of this and gentle exfolication my face looks great. Since I have the package deal I'm going to get three more but I now feel better equiped to deal with the recovery period and what works for my face. It was definitely a week and 1/2 of hell but I think the long term reward maybe worth it. Thanks ladies for all your help!

This happened to me and I used a mixture of lavender essential oil (5 drops) and grapeseed oil (20 drops). Apply it and cover with aquaphor. Stopped the peeling, eased the dryness and no injury to my skin. Be very careful with glycolic peels; they can make your skin very, very sensitive in the end.

I use glycolic quite often. It sounds like to me you either had a reaction to it ( your skin doesn't like it) or more than likely you jumped in with using too much out to gate. It sounds like your whole regimen had glycolic acid in it. The cleanser and moisturizer? Would this be correct? And you were using it every night or everyday, twice a day? This could be overkill for beginners. I always recommend starting slowly so that your face can adjust to the chemical. You recieved the professional peel so essentially, most of the dead skin cells would have exfoliated off. You would continue to peel jumping right into the products, in which I would think would be irritating. This is just my two cents so follow the doctor's orders. What maintenance products did they give you? It could be possible that something in the product line cause the issue instead of the glycolic alone. Just a few thoughts. :)
