View Full Version : AFTER exfoliation. . .

what do you do?
In my journey to reclaiming perfect skin (or pretty darn close!!!) I'm discovering that what you do AFTER exfoliation is as important (if not more) than exfoliation itself.
Since the skin is being disrupted so to speak it's important to apply something healing afterwards or the scars and other blemishes heal worse.
I've been using my spa mitt to exfoliate my face again and I'm finding that it is fast tracking my healing process. Every third day I am also using some sort of microdermabrasion/peel. I was using the Loreal kits before but I recently switched over to the Oil of Olay kit.
Afterwards, I apply something healing and nourishing: fresh aloe, Fountain of Youth skin cream, olive oil, and I'm thinking of adding fresh lemon juice to the mix.
What are you all doing afterwards?

My main exfoliator is Microdelivery Peel from Philosophy. And the woman that created the line always stresses putting on something with high doeses of anti-oxidants after the peel (A,C,E) so I use Hope in a Jar after and I love Jason's Vitamin E Oil.

I second that on the sunscreen Sylver, but I use that in the morning. I use Eucerin's 12 hour sunscreen and I've become downright paranoid about using it.
One other thing I do is to put on a honey mask immediately after exfoliating. Then I apply one of the above mentioned topicals. Haven't tried the lemon juice yet and now that I think of it, that might hurt a bit. Maybe I'll apply it in the morning prior to the sunscreen.
My friend also recommended this oil serum available at Sally's called Lightening Serum. I forget who the maker was. . .a woman's name or something. Well, it has all sorts of essential oils and regular ones. One oil is lemon peel oil. It was only 6.99 and I sometimes rub a drop or two of that in when I'm done exfoliating.
I'm so excited because my skin is finally going back to how it was this past summer. I figure by April everything should have come full circle!!

I'm glad I clicked on this. I just started exfolitating regularly. I use baking soda every other night after I wash with my DOve Pink, then I apply Ponds cream face wash as a moisturizer. I would love some suggestions for what to put on between the scrub and the moisturizer.

I exfoliate twice a week and after I do, I apply a hydrating mask, and after I rinse that off, I follow up with a thick moisturizing creme and go to bed. (That's my winter routine)
In the warmer months, my skin is more supple and hydrated rather than dry so I after exfoliation, I just follow up with a moisturizing "lotion" mixed with EVOO (extra virgin olive oil).
I always do my "facial" treatments before bed so I don't use sunscreen until I leave out the next morning.

Which brand are you using? Oh and have you found a place to get the Himani Gold locally?

I only exfoliate at night and then I apply a 5% glycolic acid (just like my aestitician does when I get a microdermabrasion) followed by a light coating of grapeseed extract. The next day, I moisturize with Cetaphil and grapeseed.

Nope I'm still ordering Himani from the site.
I use Paulas Choice. The lady who wrote "don't go to cosmetics counter without me" I love her books and her products.
I have been using these two for years,I just haven't been consistent
8% Alpha Hydroxy Acid Solution-glycolic acid
2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Gel salicylic acid
and I just ordered this
Remarkable Skin Lightening Lotion
Paula's Choice Remarkable Skin Lightening Lotion can be used all over the face and body to help fade skin discolorations caused by sun damage (commonly, though erroneously, called "liver"or "age" spots) and brighten ashy skin color. This state-of-the-art formula contains 2% hydroquinone to inhibit melanin production and 7.4% glycolic acid to help fade signs of past sun damage and smooth the skin’s texture by increasing exfoliation.
and I will be ordering this soon
Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate
Almost imperceptible on the skin, this weightless combination of potent antioxidants, cell-communicating ingredients, and anti-irritants forms a breathable barrier to protect and nourish skin, help normalize skin function and absorb oil, leaving an unbelievably smooth matte finish. It can be used around the eye area, (though if the under eye area is dry, the Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate would be a better choice).
--Contains retinol, the cell-communicating ingredient that influences how cells behave and repair themselves
Helps skin stay healthy and repair itself by reducing irritation and inflammation from sun damage, pollution, and the environment
100% fragrance and colorant-free.

Girl thanks, but I had already figured it out :lachen: . I googled "liquid AHA and BHA" and Paula came up. Then I remembered that you mentioned her in another post. So I put 2 and 2 together. Oh BTW, I picked up the Roc today. I got both the intensive day and night cream. I read alot of reviews of the night cream. I used the night cream tonight and I didn't get any tingling or burning like some reported. I'm going to order some Himani Gold and the Paula's stuff soon. Your skin is flawless ;)

I usually exfoliate with a scrub or my microdermabrasion kit in the evening before bed, so I follow-up with Clinique Total Turnaround Lotion.

Once a week recently I 1. exfoliate 2.steam 3. mud mask 4. moisture mask.
Only I can't find my moisture mask (KIDS! ) so last week I used a little grapeseed oil. I think next time I may try aloe vera gel.

After I exfoliate with a scrub, I either use a mask or skip the mask and follow up with olive oil and a moisturizer with suncreen in it.

I exfoliate twice per week. I follow up with a moisturizing mask, toner, and day cream.
