I'm about 5 ft 4 in tall and I do not like my weight. Most people think I weigh less than what I do, but it's quite visible to me and is not "normal". In highschool I started to pick up weight and it never really left. I want to really slim down. What's a good weight for a young woman of my height? I am nowhere near obese but I am definitely over my ideal weight by about 17 pounds.

130-135 if you have a medium frame IMHO

Well, it also depends on a few factors:

1. Muscle mass
2. % of bodyfat
3. Level of fitness
4. health issues

I don't go by weight alone. If I did I would be a basket case. I weight 160lbs, which is quite deciving because my bodyfat is around 14% Women should stay above the 10% mark for hormonal reasons anyway but thats another story.

At any rate, My level of fitness is extremely high. I used to compete as a bodybuilder for quite a few years (and naturally too, none of that "funny stuff") So I train specifically for muscle mass. I look normal in the winter because of the clothes I wear, in the summer I do get the stares. Oh well.I wear a size 6-8 so I know I don't look like what I weigh. I may come out of retirement one day:ohwell:

So these 4 factors really tell the whole story. If you've got a decent fitness level, you're going to probably have more muscle than fat which will make you appear thinner than you actually weigh. that will also mean you're going to have less bodyfat. Also, before you enbark on an exercise program, its best to get blood work done to rule out any problems before hand.

But, don't let the scale drive you crazy. Look at the whole picture before you let that happen.

I think on a medical chart it could range anywhere from 112-146. But only you can know what a "good" weight would be for you ;)

I am 5'4" and I am 150lbs :look:. Nobody believes that I am 150lbs until I get on a scale. People think I am like 135-140lbs. I have smedium (small/medium) boobs (36B) and and I wear a 7/8 in shorts, jeans, pants etc. but I always end up having to buy a 9/10 because of my butt.

My doctor told me that my ideal weight range should be between 111-146lbs :ohwell: But I like my size. I will admit that I need to tone up my abs a bit but I am working on that. I never go the charts that tells me what my weight SHOULD be. I just make sure that I eat healthy foods and work out as much as possible :)

Girl that was me before baby  and I liked myself at that size. People always thought I weighed less because all of my weight wasnt in one section. I had a flat stomach and nothing jiggled. I need to get back there :ohwell: But I know some people who weigh that and look like it because of their shape, so Im agreeing with the other ladies that it depends on your shape/frame.

*bump*

I'm exactly this height (perhaps 1/4th of an inch less). I teeter at the top end of that scale. Right now I'm 145. I'd like to be at the lower end of the scale, which is 110. People who know me think this is too much. My weight is mostly in my thighs :( and my shoulders are broad and balance out my hips (which are about 41 inches). I'm an hourglass. I'd just like to be a smaller one. I'm taking healthy steps to accomplish this. I run two miles at least four times a week and I've increased my raw intake and decreased my grain intake. I'm already a vegetarian, so greasy burgers are not my problem.

I would probably *look* okay at 130 or 120, but I know I will probably get some stares because my goal is to go below 120.

What are your thoughts? Is this a healthy goal?

I am 5'4", with a medium frame, and I currently weigh 143 lbs. I am an hourglass with some muscle, so I don't look like I weigh that much. DH doesn't thinks I need to lose any weight because I am already wearing a size 4-6. Anyway, I only want to lose about 8 lbs., during the next month, which would put me at 135....then I can maintain a "weight range" of 135 to 138, which would be ideal for me.
