i didn't read the books or anything but i took the basic concept of it (eating every 3 hours meal-snack-meal-snack-meal etc and portioning my plate out like he suggests w/ veggie/fruit, carb, protein, and healthy fat) and it worked for me. when i stuck to it i was NEVER hungry and i didn't crave bad stuff as much because I was satisfied. along with exercise and drinking lots of water, the 3-hour concept did helpme lose weight...about 10 lbs. I probably would have lost more but I fell off and stopped doing it. I'm actually going to try and start doing it again soon. a typical menu for me was this:

i'd get up and eat within an hour of getting up.

7:00 am
1 cup strawberries (fruit)
1/2 cup oatmeal (carb)
protein shake or low fat cottage cheese (protein)
handful of almonds (healthy fat)

10:00 am
yogurt (100 calories or less)

1:00 pm
medium salad (veg)
1/2 slice of whole grain bread or brown rice (carb)
4 oz baked turkey or fish (protein)
1 tsp olive oil -used to cook meat with (healthy fat)

4:00 pm
1-2 cups popcorn (no salt or butter, usu seasoned w/ hot sauce)

7:00 pm
medium salad or large side of any vegetable (veg)
1/2 sweet or red potato (carb)
4 oz baked fish or shrimp (protein)
walnuts or flaxseed oil on salad (healthy fat)

sometimes i would have a scoop of soy ice cream or another snack after dinner too since it's allowed on the program. there are SO many variations that you can do as long as you stay within the criteria. i never felt bored or deprived. also on the site they show you sample menus.

the only obstacle to me, is that it can be challenging to eat every 3 hours if you have a FT job or go to school. when i was doing this i wasn't working or going to school so it wasn't as hard. you really have to be on top of your game though and plan your meals. it also can get obsessive. i tended to get carried away with it and drove my boyfriend nuts. i'd be like "what time is it?..i gotta eat soon"...he got tired of hearing that lol. but i really do think it's a good program and it makes sense.

i tried to follow this also..i found an example of it in like the Womans Day Magazine or First Magazine on how some women lost weight on it..but like mkstar826 mentioned it is hard to do if you work fulltime or have school...

Sista,
I was watching some entertainment show the other day and they were interviewing some actress (it's killing me that i can't think of the name; I have been trying to rack my brain before i posted it so i could post her name; i'll think of it though!!!)...........Anyway, I didn't even know this was a diet b/c this is how i have been eating for the longest. It's something I adapted from my fitness magazine.

Just as the previous poster mentioned, it requires discipline, but the priniciple is pretty basic, making sure you incorporate a small portion from each food group each time you eat (every three hours). It accomplishes quite a few things; for one, if you are eating every few hours, you are less likely to be famished as you would be if you did it the other way (eat breakfast at 6 or 7 then eat lunch at 12 or 1). That's 5 hours between eating and by that time, your hunger has built up and you are more likely to eat much more than you would have normally eaten. Also, be eating every few hours like that, you keep your metabolism going (it's continually churning to digest the food that you're putting away every few hours).

I sit at a desk now so it's a lot easier to be consistent but in 2 weeks I will be going back to working on the road, so I will be packing my cooler! After planning all my meals at the beginning of the week, I prepare meals for the next day the night before. It's more of a lifestyle for me rather than a diet and my body has gotten so used to eating every few hours that when I don't, my stomach attacks me:whip: and lets me know that I'm not playing fair!!

I also see you're doing the Firm. That is a great program! Love it! If you follow this program plus the Firm, there is no way that you won't be able to reach whatever goals you have b/c the Firm is fierce!
