I've recently added the flavored mini rice cakes to my diet..I absolutely love the cheddar cheese flavor. They taste like cheetoes but you eat 7 or 9 or them for 70 calories....
what do you like??

I don't like processed foods (except for plain potato chips ...which I just read was among the top five worst foods :( ).
So my favorite snacks are fruits and nuts. I love mixed nuts and while high in calories, they are legumes and are good for you due to the protein. You can just eat a handful at a time.
Fishers makes these dried fruit and nut combination snack bags that I love.
I also like 100 percent natural peanut butter (Smuckers ...the label says the ingredients are peanuts and salt. Awesome). This satisfies my sweet tooth, while being natural and packed with energy and protein. It is high in fat, but it's not like you have to eat the whole jar at once. I can spread a little over slices of apples. Delicious. A hundred calorie serving can really give me a boost.
I also like 2 % block cheese. It's 80 to 90 calories a serving. It's protein and calcium. Yum.
Also, I love ice cream. I eat Healthy Choice or Edy's grand light every day, even when I was a size 8 I did this. I believe ice cream is the best sweet you can eat. It's dairy so the sugar is combated with protein, calcium, etc.
Light Microwave popcorn I eat sometimes.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE grapes.
I prefer a quality, natural satisfying snack (like peanut butter) rather than some factory-made low calorie snack that is unnatural. I really don't even view those as healthy ... or reall food for that matter. It brings me deep pleasure to eat reall quality food ... and consequently I can eat less of that then I would Wheat Thins or some other stuff like that.
Oh-- I forgot to mention that I love Nutri-Grain cereal bars (with the strawberry or apple inside). Some cereal/granola bars are entriely too sweet , overprocessed, and yucky though. You really have to hunt for good ones.

Strawberries
Grapes
Celery sticks
Baby carrots
Organic tortilla chips
Cucumber slices
Raspberries
Blueberries
Cherries (I can eat them by the pound, they are sooooooo good)
Pink grapefruit
Pears
Fruit smoothies
Boiled eggs (free range used to be a fave, but I don't do dairy any more so I'm not so much into these anymore)
WATERMELON....to die for!
Organic cereal bars (blueberry is my fave)
I prefer my fruits & veggies organic if possible.
Good thread! :look:

I have a problem with totally "healthy" snacks all the time. I need chocolate sometimes, I need something bad sometimes. So I don't deprive myself. i just maintain portion control.
I will have something like a Kudos Chocolate chip bar and it is 130 calories 5 grams of fat, 20 carbs, 1 protein and 1 fiber. I document it in my Calorie King diet diary and still have my chocolate fix.
I cannot really eat the typical so-called healthy snacks all the time, because so many of them are really nasty and don't satisfy my cravings. I just eat what I want but try to maintain my 1500 calories at a 60/30/20 Carb/Fat/Protein ratio.
I do go for the better choices, i.e. Baked Doritios vs. the regular ones, etc.
Nature's Choice (Giant Foods) Soy crisps are good, though.

I forgot to mention this.
I am a chocolate FIEND.
I buy the semi sweet baking chocolate and shave it over stuff ...like ice cream, yogurt, bananas..etc. I sure I eat chocolate at least every other day. The shaving keeps the portions small...although I have been known to break off a 90 calorie piece :giggle:. No harm in that.
Chocolate is good for you ...the darker the better. I try not to eat it in candy bar fashion...but close to the pure form. I'm trying to go to unsweetened baking chocolate soon.
did you mention baked doritos? I knew about baked tostillos, but I'll have to look for the doritos in my times of need ...although like I said ..processed foods really make me want to puke sometimes...

This is a very good post. Here are some of my favorites:
Caramel or Salt and Vinegar favoured rice cakes
Sugar free Jello
dried mixed fruits
Cashews
Weight Watchers Toffee Cookies
Ryvita with soy cheese or peanut butter
popcorn
Peaches
Dry cereal (eg. shreddies, cherrios, rasin bran)
Or one of favorites baked apples
BAKED APPLE
110 calories, 0.1g protein, 0 fat, 29 g carbohydrate.
INGREDIENTS:
1 small apple (cored, and peeled)
1 tablespoon raisins
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon honey
A couple drops of rum flavoring (optional)
A dash of cinnamon
PREPARATION:
1. Combine all of the ingredients except the water and apple.
2. Stuff this into the apple.
3. Cover with plastic wrap and cook for 2 minutes on high, check to see if it is done, turn and continue to heat in 1 minute increments, turning each minute, until the apple soft and cooked.
You can also make it the traditional way by actually baking the apple in the oven if you prefer. :)

cucumbers and hummus
good dark bread and olive oil and salt
trail mix!!
unsalted almonds! eat these and you will not crave processed snacks!!!
just started buying Kasha crackers called TLC-before this i haven't stocked my pantry with anything resembling a traditional snack:eg, crackers, chips or cookies.
occasionally a piece of 60% to 75% dark chocolate.
dark chocolate (and dark only) is good for you.
ETA: its most practical to stay away from anything with refined sugars like corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup. it only makes you hungrier.

Sliced apples (green) and peanut butter (it tastes like a caramel apple) (great combo of protein and carbs)
Almonds (unsalted) and apple (great combo of protein and carbs)
Cucumbers/tomatoes/bellpeppers/onions cut up and soaked in a little rice vinegar
100 calorie microwave popcorn
String Cheese/Apple (great combo of protein and carbs)
Boiled eggs
Graham crackers and cheese or graham crackers and peanut butter
Strawberries
Peaches
Seedless Grapes (freeze them; they are delish!!!)
Cottage cheese and pineapples or cottage cheese and peaches or cottage cheese and fruit cocktails
8 ounce yogurt/flavored; can never it unflavored yogurt except in a smoothie...too nasty (tastes good with Kaski Go Lean Crunch crumbled over the top of it or either pineapple tidbits mixed in the yogurt)
chocolate milk (good protein) and an apple (good carb)
baby carrots
vanilla frozen yogurt
smoothies made with milk, ice, vanilla yogurt or frozen yogurt, protein and frozen fruit. (berries, pineapples, etc.)
I probably forgot some, but I snack throughout the day to hold me over til I have lunch, and dinner. Also have a snack after dinner, so that's about 3 snacks per day. Most of my snacks contain a serving of protein as well as a serving of carbs.

have you ever tried dark chocolate that's 85% dark...if so is there a big difference in taste between it and the 60-75% dark that you usually eat? I bought the one that is 85% dark and I took a little bite and decided that that was not for me. i would love to stick to dark chocolate but it can't be as bitter the one that i tasted...and suggestions of the brands that do taste good are also welcomed...thanks guys

My favorite "healthy snacks" are:
-apple cinnamon and sugar rice cakes (yum!)
-a hand-full of chocolate teddy grahams for my chocolate fix (they're surprisingly low-cal!)
-grapes (my favorite!)
-Bannana alone, or a bannana with a little bit of peanut butter
-fruit cup
-1 dove (dark/milk) chocolate square (again, to satisfy my chocolate obsession!)
-Jello
-cuccumbers and tuna
-frosted shredded wheat minis (without milk)
-yogurt alone, AND yogurt with a little bit of granola, or "Fiber 1" cereal mixed in for that "crunch"
