I'm not sure what to do, but I know that this habit really causes weight gain.
I feel so restless when I am eating and don't have anything else to do.
All advice would be appreciated?
Thanks

Ok, you might not like this but I'll say it any way. If you must eat in front of the television, don't sit down. ... hear me out... instead go into the push up position and stay there. If you still want to snack, you'll have to do push ups to get them. This way you are exercising ang snacking. Sounds a little harsh, but i had my best friend on a routine similiar to this because she would not leave the television alone. She hated it at first, but as your muscles get use to it, it becomes easy and you are using your whole body. The best part is, she gave up the snacking thing, left the couch and became more active. She substituted a water bottle for the snacks.......
what do you say?

Eat ice chips or a low snack like raisins, dried fruit or drink water.

I think that is a great suggestion. Raisins and dried fruit have a lot of sugar, though. If you just need to be chewing on something, I think the ice chips are the way to go. I will have to try that myself!

Try turning your tv to a music channel. I put my tv on the smooth jazz or jazz channel. The music soothes me and helps me to concentrate on what I'm eating. Or you could invest in something like Tivo or a DVR and pause your favorite show to eat, then resume watching it when you're finished!

If all else fails, turn off the TV. Then, go for a walk or pick up a good book or put some lively music that you can dance to.
And if THAT does not work, girl, you'd better off investing in a threadmill that you can use while watching TV.

I think portion control might help. I mean don't take the whole box of chips or cookies and just snack. Get a handful or whatever and lots of water to drink. You can also focus on smaller portions when you having your daily meals.
