I have the same magazine and read that article too. lol! It inspired me to get out and get some. I got the HL10 because the guy at GNC said that people were having great results with it. TOday is my 2nd day taking it and it's been pretty good. Oh the HL10 has 500mg of Hoodia in 1 capsule compared to 200mg in 2 capsules in the other one. Keep me opsted on your weight loss progress. I'll do the same. :)

My bottle was on sale at GNC for $35. It's usually $40. I feel absoultely no side effects at all, besides suppressed appetite. I didn't mention this but the first day I bought the H57 and the GNC guy was trying to tell me that the other one was better. I was hardheaded and bought it anyway and took two. I ended up going back to GNC the next day and picking these up. I do like them better already. Also when I took the H57 it made my arms break out in a rash. So far nothing with the HL10. Good luck and keep us posted. :)

Wow, I am going to pick some of this up. I am ALWAYS hungry, lol! Keep us informed on your results!
Details ladies I need details. If I go to GNC will the bottle just say HL10 or will it say Hoodia HL10? Are you both taking it an hour before meals with 8 oz of water? Can you really tell the difference in your appetite? I'm going to try it but I want to make sure I buy the right thing.

Well i have the H57(it comes in a black box and black bottle)...it should be over near the diet supplements...but my mom just went and broungt the HL10...it just that different ones have different milligrams of Hoodia in them...some have green tea and cinnamon...thats what is in the H57(but its only like 200mg of Hoodia, 400mg of Green tea extract, 20mg of cinnamon bark extract, and 2 mg of trans-resveratrol, whatever that is)...but they have some that have just 500 and i think 800 milligrams of Hoodia in them...im scared to try these because if im not having any side effects now from just the 200 mg of Hoodia...i dont want to get a stronger dosage and do have side effects..even though they said that there is no side effects...i take mine 1 hour before my meals...i was doing 1 before breakfast and 1 before lunch...but i was tending to overeat at night...so im going to switch to 1 before lunch and 1 before dinner...all of the packages will tell you to make sure you do not exceed 6 pills a day...it depends on how you want to do it...but i rather stick to taking 2 a day...another thing that i notice is that i am running to the bathroom peeing alot without even drinking water...and if you are unsure ask someone that works at GNC they will be able to help you figure out whats best for you...also the vitaminshoppe supposedly sells it too..i checked online...

Hey Lisa, the one I have is Dex-L10. It's 500mg of pure Hoodia and nothing else. I take it an hour before eating with 8pz of water. The stuff is pretty good. Unfortunately I won't be restraining from eating this weekend because my uncle is visiting and he and my mother are throwing down on some serious Jamaican cooking for the weekend  But I', sure with the way this stuff has performed so far, that I will lose these 10 lbs. Good luck and keep us posted :)

Review Article: Hoodia (Hoodia gordonii) —
Initial Posting: 10/20/05
What It Is:
Hoodia (Hoodia gordonii), is a cactus-like succulent plant that grows in the high deserts of the Kalahari on the border of South Africa and Namibia. Hoodia is very rare and is protected by national conservation laws in South Africa and Namibia. Its stems and roots are used in supplements.
What It Does:
It has been claimed that people indigenous to the Kalahari desert have used hoodia to stave off hunger during long-distance travel over the desert. In the 1960s the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), a scientific research body in South Africa, included Hoodia gordonii among several hundred plant species in a project on edible wild plants. It found that rats fed hoodia lost weight but remained healthy.
It has been reported that a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 18 obese people showed that those who took hoodia for 15 days ate 1,000 fewer calories daily, and burned more fat than those in the placebo group, without adverse effects. However, this is a fairly small study and, suspiciously, has never been published in a peer-reviewed journal. Most of the other evidence for Hoodia in people seems to be anecdotal, centering on personal experiences with the herb.
How It May Work:
The ability of hoodia to suppress the appetite or cause weight loss has been associated with a compound within the plant called P57, a steroidal alkaloid. A study found that injecting P57 into the brains of rats caused the animals to eat 40 to 60% less food. It is difficult to know whether the effect was due to the ingredient or other factors. However, it is believed that P57 may work by increasing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in nerve cells in the hypothalamus, the brain's control center for regulating regulates thirst, temperature, and appetite. When levels of ATP are increased in hypothalamic nerve cells, those nerve cells fire, simulating the feeling that you have just eaten.
Interestingly, the drug company Pfizer began developing P57 as a prescription weight-control agent. However, in 2003 Pfizer discontinued clinical development of P57. A specific reason for this decision was not disclosed. More recently, the consumer products company, Unilever (which makes Slim-Fast) announced that it had acquired the rights to develop and market hoodia as an ingredient in its weight-loss products.
Quality Concerns:
It has been speculated that there is more hoodia being sold today than could possibly be made from all the Hoodia gordonii plants in existence. It is believed that some products may be derived from other species of Hoodia or similar succulents from around the world. In such cases, consumers are likely not getting what they expect from the product.
In addition, there is presently no scientific standard for assessing the quality of hoodia as an ingredient, although attempts are being made to characterize its components. The quality of hoodia supplements, therefore, remains largely uncertain. Once there is better characterization, ConsumerLab.com will likely purchase, test, and report on the quality of marketed products.
How to Use It:
Since there are no published clinical trials to establish an optimal dose that is safe and effective, no one knows for certain how much hoodia should be taken. General dosing for hoodia is thought to be 3,000-4,000 mg per day of powder made from the roots and/or stems of Hoodia gordonii to trigger any sort of effect. Dosage for products made from concentrated extracts would be lower, depending on the concentration.
Interestingly, one popular weight loss supplement, Trimspa, claims to contain hoodia (along with other ingredients) and suggests a daily dose that would yield only 500 mg of hoodia per day. Other manufacturers have different recommendations.
As with any weight loss program, results will obviously be enhanced with a regimen that includes a reduced-calorie diet and exercise.
Caveats and Cautions:
While believed by some to be safe, safety studies have not been published with hoodia or P57. Further scientific studies are required to establish its safety.
Be aware that many supplements with hoodia contain other weight loss ingredients with potential side effects. Examples are bitter orange and caffeine, which can elevate heart rate and blood pressure, and cause nervousness and sleeplessness.
Conclusion:
Although tantalizing, the evidence for hoodia as a weight loss ingredient remains anecdotal and preliminary, as does evidence of its safety. It is also uncertain which products on the market provide the authentic ingredient and whether they recommend an appropriate dose.
At this time, it is uncertain whether using a hoodia supplement will be help with weight loss.

Hey HH007-
What exactly was the certificate of authenticity for?
To prove that it was truly made from Hoodia or something else?
The article Vev posted alluded to some products not really having high quality, so I'm curious as to what your certificate is for.
-Thanks!

I saw the same article friday after I purchased the First magazine and went to Walgreens that night and bought the H57 also. I started Saturday and Sunday I had to make myself eat! This morning I had a low-calorie breakfast, yogurt for snack so I am not hungry for lunch. I think this might really work for me if I watch my calorie and fat intake. Rememer to take your vitamins because if you eat less then your body will not get all of the proper vitamins it needs. I have lost 25 lbs so far so I want to go ahead and get rid of the rest of my pounds. I will check in to see how you are doing with your supplements.I picked up the First magazine(November 7, 2005 issue, with a yellow background) and was reading thru it...i came to the article about Hoodia..this isnt the first time ive heard about Hoodia...i remember hearing about it on Dataline or 60 minutes not too long ago...but what was interesting was that they had this lady that lost 90 to 100 pounds by just taking these pills 2 capsules 1 hour before eating...and within 9 months she was down from 209 pounds to 114 pounds and she states that she didnt modify her way of eating and didnt exercise...she just had a baby...heres the lady that was in the first magazine..
