Does anyone know what the difference is between gospel music and Christian music?

Or are they the same?

I just got the new Kirk Franklin today, I can't wait to listen to it.

Blosssom, I think Christian music encompasses all types of music which worship Jesus/minister to Christians. Gospel music appears to refer to "black" Christian music, although I think that all Christian music which exalts God is essentially gospel music.

Gospel Music is to Christian music as black is to white....unfortunate...but that's the difference.

That's sad... I was afraid of that.

I was listening to some Christian music on TV the other Sunday. It was a white congregation and the people in the singing group were all white, except for the piano player who was leading a song. He was black.

Therefore, I wasn't too sure, but whenever I hear someone talking about Christian music, it's always a white person.

A lot of what I've heard termed as Christian music or gospel sounds the same anyway, regardless of who is singing it.

I just don't know why they can't just refer to it as one or the other...

yeah, it does sound different though. Gospel is gospel. (I was about to say it has roots in jazz, but it's the other way around. :lol:) Contemporary Christian tends to lean towards pop and country, and southern gospel depending on what artist you're talking about. Gospel is the root of all music really!
