... into serious weight training.

Hi Ladies! Got anther question for ya. WHat are some of your best tips for bringing up strength in your wearker side? I knew my left side was weaker since I am right handed, but I didn't realize how much till I started doing incline dumbell curls. So I'm looking for ways to balance strength. My first thought is that I should throw in some unilateral training and just do the left side once or twice a week. I just don't really know the best way to incorporate this. What do you think? Or do you have some other, better ideas??? TIA!

Good mornin!!

The first thing that comes to mind is also doing unilateral work. When I was
working with my trainer last year, that is what he did for my legs, and while it wasn't really a strength issue, it did help tremendously w/the muscle development. I trained them on the same days w/the same weights and reps conventions (as the stronger side) but making each facet work individually really made the weaker side step up to the plate.

If you train the weaker side, say it's your arms, doing barbell curls, you'll end up favoring the weaker side, over compensating on the stronger. I have a client that is experiencing this, we do STRICTLY unilateral work for her upper body (chest, shoulders and arms).

It takes a bit of patience but it's well worth the effort in the long run.

Thank you ladies! We have some great Freemotion equipment at the gym which will help add to my unilateral adventure. I'm going to go ahead and design a program for myself using the Freemotion and dumbells. Plus I really gotta work on getting funtional upper body strength. I can't do a pull up on my own to save my life, but I can do them on the assited pull-up/dip machine. Hopefully the unilateral training will help with this also.

BTW, what are some of your best unilateral moves for upper body?
