Hi sterry,

I've been doing a quick morning workout for a little bit now.

However, I'm starting to feel almost faint as I go about those first couple hours of my day. I do not have time for a breakfast. I was thinking of getting a protein shake in the morning just to get that energy boost. Would you suggest drinking this shake then, before, or after the workout (it lasts ten minutes, and involves trunk twists, ab slide, push ups, squats, lunges and tricep dips or whatever they're called)?

Also just to kill two birds with one stone, I'm also still keeping an eye out for good recommendations on a very quick breakfast? I'm talking one minute to eat, easy to consume so either a food that fulfils that need or a drink/shake, and almost 0 time required to prepare. Something nutritious, tastes good, and anywhere from 100 to 250 calories or so (I'm not really worried about calories, they say you should eat breakfast to start burning early in the day, anyway :ohwell: ), and gives me energy in the morning. Any suggestions from anyone welcome. Thanks!

Do you work out first thing in the am?

I was trying to workout prior to bkfast and would get dissy. My nutritionist said that I need to have something small like an apple of slice wheat toast prior to working out. It definitely helped with the light headedness and the shakey hands I used to get. Proten shake is a good option.

As far a quick meal. How about you boil a few eggs the night before. Then you can just grab them and go in the am (I just eat the egg white part--not the yoke). Also what about Luna bars. They are my favorite now and take great. Sweet Dreams Luna has:
180 calories
5g fat
27g carbs
9g protein
9 g Sugar
3g Fiber

I just love them, and sometimes I will have one for breakfast with 6 oz milk. You can also add fruit to that as well.

Sounds awesome!! The Luna bar sounds like something I could eat in between hitting the snooze button in the morning :look:

Yeah, I do workout first thing in the morning :) And yes I get the lightheadedness and the shakes! OMG!

I know exactly what you are about....like I mentioned above try to eat an apple or something prior to working out. This should help.

Luna bars are my favorite. I eat them every day and feel like I am cheating.

I seen the chocolate pecan pie flavor, OMG!!! YUM!!! (I'm drooling ever before tasting it. Trust that I'm going to grab some in Walgreens after work!) I'll also slice up some apples today so I can quickly eat some before working out. This is good info!! Thank you!! :)

Hey JaneiR36

First I like to say great to see you making changes in your life style. I can not begin to express the rewards of eating well and exercise.
I like to begin my workouts on an empty stomach so my body can use fats already stored as fuel as opposed to food I have eaten for fuel. But not everyone can do this especially if you have gone a long time the prior night without eating. My suggestion is to grab a handful of nuts walnut, peanuts or pecans before your workout.
To begin please don't make the mistake of NOT eating breakfast. Breakfast is fuel for the body. I often ask my client who skip breakfast if they would run their car without gas? Breakfast is fuel for the body
Skipping breakfast starts a downward spirals. Please make time for breakfast.
*New research shows that those who regularly skip their breakfast are more likely to be overweight and are more prone to heart disease than anyone else
*Often skipping breakfast makes one eat more during the rest of the day
*Increases Cholestrol
*May cause Insulin resistance
*And shows that young adult that skip breakfast not to do well in school

My suggestion is that you wake up at least 30-40 minutes earlier to give yourself a chance to relax and eat your meal. It maybe hard in the beginning but worth it and can be done if you go to bed at least an hour earlier the previous night. We have to fuel our bodies properly in order for us not to lack energy.
A great breakfast begins with complex carbs, protein and healthy fats.
my favorite is :

Choice #1
1 pack of instant oatmeal (regular)
sprinkled with cinnamon
a dash of vanilla extract
sugar substitute
6 crush walnuts
add 1 scoop EAS whey protein in vanilla flavor (in the beginning it will be slightly lumpy until you learn to mix it in slowly)
1 cup of black coffe or green tea
1 flaxseed or Omega 3,6,9 supplement

Choice #2
1 scoop whey protein EAS Vanilla
1/2 cup strawberries
2 tablespoon non fat plain yogurt
1 teaspoon honey
blended with ice
1 slice wheat bread w/ teaspoon peanut butter
1 flaxseed or Omega 3,6,9, supplement

Choice #3
5 egg white 1 whole egg stuff with 1/2 cup spinach 1/2 cup mushrooms
cooked with Pam olive oil
1 slice wheat toast
spread 1/2 teaspoon all natural peanut butter
cup black coffee or green tea
1 flaxseed or Omega 3,6,9 supplement

If you must eat something before a workout try: Mind you that your body must be worthy of a post workout fix ....that means at least 30 minutes of exercise to get your body pumping
*english muffin with peanut butter and honey
*half of bagel (onion) with creamed avocado
*Yam or sweet potatoe with cup skim milk

***Also after a workout is the best time for you to comsume more carbohydrates because your glygogen stores are depleted and protein to aid in repairing muscle.
Great after workout refuelers
*apple with peanut butter
*1/2 cup non fat cottage cheese, add dash vanilla extract and sugar substitue blend until creamy (delicious) eat with cantalope and crushed walnuts
*can tuna on a 3 pieces of melba toast
*cup non fat yogurt with 5 slice strawberries, blueberries and sprinkle with all natural granola and walnuts

The above breakfast is very powerful and gives the body the right amount of carbs for energy

Also work on drinking at least a gallon of water a day to flush out fat and toxins in the body.

I hope this help if not let me know

Hey Shatani,

I like the walnuts because they provide a good source of fats.
If you are taking a good Omega Complex or oils that is fine as well.
