I am again trying to lose weight and tone up. The gym worked for a well, but I started not going. Anyway a few of us have started walking as exerice. There is a place in that use to be a mall that people walk in. It has been working out great, but I wanted to know how can we get the most out of our walk?
i.e. Power walk; use hand weights, etc.
Any suggestions on getting the most out of our walk.
We are walking around 2 to 3 miles a day 5 days a week
TIA

Make sure you tighten (clinch) your butt when you walk.

im telling you girl the first time i lost 20 pounds with just walking alone 5 days a week 3 miles a day...in combination with weight watchers...i felt so good...but with me moving and all the fast food i gained back half of my weight but i am working on it again..but anyway...walking will tone everything up...you just have to be consistent with it...and as long as you have someone to walk with it will make the time go by faster and make it more fun....and make sure you drink water...

I don't like walking with people. It is the loner in me. Try to do more walking versus talking. Sometimes the lady I would work out with talked to much.

Wow..will this help tighten, slim or tone your butt?? I never thought of this..thanks. :)

I have been walking on the days I don't go to the gym and I tell you my legs feel great afterward they feel so strong. I walk 3 miles.
I would suggest:
*Ankle weights or hold 1 lb weights in your hands
*Speed walking
*To increase caloric burn try adding sprints for example: walk for 5 mins then jog for 2 mins then walk again for 5 then sprint for 2....
*If you have any where with hills this will increase your workout as well

If you can hold 1-2lb weights that helps alot. It may not seem like a lot untill 5mins in.

I would suggest walking up a incline also. I just got back from Italy and I walked up a mountain every other day to stay in shape. The walk was about 2 miles and was very effective; I lost 3 pounds in a month....that may not sound like much but when you put Italian food in the equation 3x a day then that's a lot. LOL

My cousin and I do intervals. We walk the curves of the track, then sprint the straightaways.
