Don't be so hard on yourself. With hard work and patience you will reach your goal.
Squats and lunges work the legs and if you go to the gym they have various machines that have illustrations of what muscle it is working. You also have to do cardio to shrink the fat and expose the muscle you build through weight training. HTH

Do walking lunges. Lots of them. It's free, it's aerobic (will burn lots of calories) and will work your entire thigh area. Do squats - feet shoulder width apart, don't let your knees overshoot your toes - the wider your feet the more it works your butt not quads. Eat right, do your cardio, you know the drill girl! Good luck! And please look up some pictures for proper technique before you get started...:)

First of all though you don't feel like it know this:
Psalm 139:14 (New King James Version)
14I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[a (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalms%20139:14;&version=50;#fen-NKJV-16254a)]
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
I gave that not to be preachy (cause I don't like being preachy). I gave this cause it is someting that I have to say to myself when I feel like you do. Words are powerful and it is important for us to speak positively and affirm or encourage ourself if no one else does. How we perceive and treat ourselves is how others see and treat us. It's a moment we all go through and it too shall pass.
With all that being said, exercises that are good are squats (butt), lunges (thighs), and brisk walking. Certain pilates moves are good too. HTH:)

Try not to be so hard on yourself. To burn fat try a jump rope routine or walking to burn calories, you will see a difference if you stick with it. The lungs are a great idea for toning as well.

I was feeling out of shape (I am out of shape) so I am going back to Tae bo.
When I was consistant with tae bo I got good results, especially in the rear and thigh area.
Squats and lunges are good--but gotta be consistant.
Other options--buying fitness mags and tearing out the pages that explain various exercise for those target areas.

I am losing weight and toning. I have been squatting about 3 times a month for the past 4 months and I can definitely see the change. My legs are now extremely muscular and I feel better about their appearance. Depending on what you squat with, squatting can take a lot of you which is why I only do it 3 times a month.

Cxshortie, what is your routine? How many sets of squats do you do? And did you loose inches?
thanks.

I have lost inches, however squatting is not the only exercise that I do.
On my Squat days, my sets depend on what I am aiming for as I am training for a powerlifting competition in November. My squat routine last week was three sets of 10 squats with a 45 weight bar to warm up.
1 set of 8 with 55 lbs
1 set of 6 with 75 pounds
2 sets of 5 with 95 pounds
1 set of 4 with 105 lbs
1 set of 3 with 120 lbs
1 set of 2 with 125 pounds
1 set of 1 with 135 pounds (all of these include the weight of the bar which is 45 pounds).
My highest squat was 185 pounds. This past workout was a light workout because this was my first time squatting without a bar pad (there is a pad hat goes over the center of the bar to take some of the pressure away from my back since the bar lays on your back when squatting).
To shape my legs, I also deadlift as well as do leg extensions and leg hyper extensions.
