Has anyone had to deal with men making comments when you work-out? Now that I’ve started running pretty regularly, there is one guy who always has something to say to me while I’m out there. What’s even more annoying is that he runs in the opposite direction of everyone else, and when he gets near, he’ll yell out a comment. He refers to me as “Mama.” It’s really been getting on my nerves, and making me want to go out & buy a treadmill even more. However, I do enjoy the fresh air. :ohwell:

yes, there's this club that I used to teach aerobics classes at that has a glass wall area bordering the aerobics room. I would see out of the corner of my eye some guys like pressed to the wall just watching me for a good 15-20 mins :barf: I used to think they were looking at the other people in class but I made the mistake of walking by some of them after class and hearing their performance review of my "jiggling". Men are so mature huh

yeah.

the running thing - thats why I got a treadmill. The track is far , and around the neighborhood it juts ain't worth it. even with headphones...ugh.

at the gym...there is one troll trainer whose monkey behind I am two seconds off of. He likes to clown and used to try and say stuff till I gave him the "I WILL cut you" glare....

I really can't stand it. I am evil in the gym, to keep folx away from me!

Its hard to exercise in the same fitness club with men...because some are not really there to workout...they are more there to look at the women...the fitness club i sometimes go to..has two rows for treadmills...and i usually get on the first row of the treadmills because i like them better...but when the men come over from weight lifting or just walk in they come to the treadmills in back of me...i even had one guy that was bold enough to tell me after i got finished with my workout on the treadmill that i kept him going...i think its so immature and so aggravating at times...i had one guy that i coudnt at first tell if it was just a ugly female or a man that kept trying to give me his phone number...and kept coming over by me when i was working out...even though i would tell him that i have a boyfriend(i was lying) but he still was persistent..thats another reason why i rather go to an all womens gym(plus some are cheaper than the normal Ballys or LA fitness) and a reason that i have my own treadmill, video tapes, and elliptical machines at home..i want to go swimming(my gym has an inside swimming pool) but because of the thought of trying to put on a bathing suit and have men looking and staring i dont feel comfortable doing so...

OMG yes I have the same problem when I go walk at the track. I started getting up extra earyly to beat these one two guys there because man the last time I saw them the one was just rude they jogged up behind me and started walking right behind me sayin stuff. I was so pissed.

Men can act so stupid sometimes....Like I'm getting in the habit of just walking up to my corner store if I need something versus driving, well it's like everytime I do some dude has to ride up next to me and see if I need a ride, if I need help, if I have a man, blah blah blah....I just want to say can you leave me the F*** alone, I'm working out OK?

I agree...that is one of the main reasons that I will not rejoin bally's here. All of the gyms that I have visited have the mens steam room located right over the pool. I was swimming and just happened to look up and they were watching me like I was in a swim meet or something, I was the only one in the pool and it made me very uncomfortable. Ewww.

There’s another track that I can go to, but it’s further away & not very convenient. There’s also a place to run along the beach, but I saw this same guy there, also. :whip: I might have to just take things indoors again. I saw a nice trampoline at Sports Authority… :cry3:

For those of you who are running outside alone, just be careful please! And for the ones at the gym that bother you just tell them you are there for a reason and NOT to sociaize. Oh and evil looks help too. I give evil looks. That plus when you can lift heavier than most of them, they tend to leave you alone :)

I started wearing baggy clothes and sometimes a hat for them not to look. I notice alot of girls at the my gym doing the same thing, which is to wear baggie clothes and a hat. Why should we be forced to look ugly because we want to work out.

I just ignore any comments. I go to the gym or track to work out, not talk. A few days ago, this guy thought that he was just gonna stroll along with me and talk. How annoying! So as soon as he thought he was gonna walk with me, i started jogging, and told him that i don't talk while jogging. He was looking cheap.
I have to agree, the evil stare works like a charm.

This is one reason I won't join a co-ed gym. I can't stand dealing with that crap. There is a track near me, as well, with some people I would really rather not encounter on a regular basis. When I used to walk there, it seemed like they were on the same schedule, because they would somehow always be there when I was there. Drove me crazy and it wasn't convenient to rework my schedule to avoid them. I started wearing headphones and completely ignoring them. But it certainly was a buzzkill to have to deal with that.

When I used to go to Ballys I would never wear make up and wear a long shirt to cover my booty.....Once I start sweating believe me no one cared about me.

Girl, it's not just at the gym. One time when I was out doing my walking/running intervals, now keep in mind I'm pushing my son in his stroller. I'm wearing bike shorts, but I've got one of my dh's big *** tshirts on covering up everything. And did I mention that 1. I'm big, and 2. It's hot and 3. I'm sweating like a pig. Well anyway, dude pulled up behind me in a city vehicle. He spoke. I nodded my head and took off running again. Dude followed me to the next intersection where I had to stop for a passing car, then he said loud enough for me to hear "I wouldn't mind hitting that!" I was so pissed I really did think about turning him in to the city. I mean, when a overweight 40 year old woman can't even take a walk down a city street with her child in a stroller, there's something bad wrong.

man after reading all of these replies it pisses me off. women should be able to run outside or go to a co-ed gym w/o feeling like they're on display. i was talking to my boyfriend about my run at the park yesterday and i was telling him i was jogging and i noticed these guys sitting against their cars talking and when i ran by the talking ceased and i felt the stares. (i had on hot pink shorts and a baby t-shirt which is what i always workout in and i'm not changing for some oogling men) i said to my boyfriend that it seems like men just come to the park or the gym to watch the women and you know what he said "we do". (even though his lazy butt doesn't do anything, I guess he was speaking in genenral :lachen: )

ARGH! just be careful ladies, maybe try to run with a friend if you're outside. I'm going to get my bf to start running w/ me.
