View Full Version : I'm allergic to all moisturizers...

But I'm cursed with a dry face after I wash. I wind up putting lotion on my face, but that's oily so it breaks me out. I don't know what it is, but all facial moisturizers and sunscreens make me break out into an itchy, scaly, red rash in the spots I apply it. I've tried almost every brand under the sun, Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, Mario Badescu, Proactiv...all of them leave me itchy and the reaction doesn't die down for DAYS. I know I'm supposed to be using stuff with sunscreen in it, but I can't. It must be a common ingredient in all moisturizers/sunscreen, but I can't figure it out. Anyone else have this problem? I don't want a dry, ashy face, but this lotion thing isn't cutting it anymore.

Have you tried any of the Black Opal Products?

I have the same problem! I agree, Cetaphil is very good. Also Burt's bee's and Kiss my Face are great. I use the Cetaphil daily cleanser because it does not dry out skin. Then while my face is still damp I use Kiss my face's FLOWER ESSENCE TONER for dry skin and then (skin still damp) I put on my moisturizer. I use Dove sensitive skin night cream even during the day. I have a dry spot that gets so dry it feels tight and drinks up all creams. I "deep condition" :) that spot overnight with burt's bees evening primose cream and Rosebud salve.

When my skin was acting up with dermatitis, EVERYTHING seemed to cause me to rash up. But my skin also felt terribly dry, and I needed something.

What I did was I applied a very light coat of castor oil to my hands and patted it onto my face. This eased the dry feeling and also didn't make me break out. I bought the castor oil at the Vitamin Shoppe.

Also, I've had good results with Aubrey's Organics skin care products. So check out that line either at the Vitamin Shoppe or on line.

Have you tried going to a dermatologist?

You might be allergic to PABA but like Allandra said, visit a dermatologist.

You may want to try 100% Aloe vera gel from the health food store. :)

Or 100% emu oil...(?)

ETA: But I agree with the dermatologist visit; even a visit to an allergist mightn't be a bad idea.

Thanks ladies, for your comments. I'm an admit tech for a hospital, so maybe I can see about getting a clinic visit with the derm over at my job. I will also look into the other things that ya'll mentioned; prolly Cetaphil (it worked fine when I was using it back in 2001,lol) and that emu oil. Thanks again!

Try Eucerin daily skin renewal + SPF 15 for the face. It's a BIG HIT among acne sufferers on acne.org !!! Only thing is it might cause your skin to be a little oily / shiny, but in MY experience, that oiliness / shine did not lead to breakouts.

Have you tried pure shea butter at night? That works for me! I also use pure aloe on my face by day.
