View Full Version : Having problems with Dana's Plan/LowCal diet..need suggestions and advice.

I have a question to all that are doing the Dana's plan.....okay i started having some problems...because this diet even though it is what they call a low calorie diet it is almost like a low carb diet also because your basically eating meat and veggies and adding a couple of fruits...and for two meals a day....but i did modified this to where i would eat fruits when i would want to snack or felt hungry, have a fruit smoothie for breakfast and i would drink a protein drink of the Perfectly Protein by Bolthouse, and would also snack on apple chips and eat the meat and veggies for lunch and dinner....i successfully went thru my first week with no problems losing a total of 6 to 7 pounds..but as i came into the second week..i started it off with my sypmtons that i usually have from migraine headaches on monday and part of tuesday and this usually doesnot happen to me unless i drink or eat something that i shouldnt(basically milk) which i did not have any of..and with my migraines i end up vomiting and feeling nausea well i was feeling like that for a day and half(which my migraines and nausea usually only last for one day) then after that i tried to eat yesterday for lunch and dinner...and did not have a appetite and actually cldnot hardly finish a half of chicken breast and string beans that i had for lunch yesterday...this morning i tried to have a fruit smoothie...i couldnt even finish it and still ended up vomiting it.....now i have experienced this before when i tried to do the atkins diet but i didnt have any fruit at all just meat and veggies and i believe eggs and bacon...but i need to know if anyone has had this problem? was it something that ended after a couple of days? what did you do? did you try to add maybe a carb back in one of your meals example like a small potatoe or something with carbs back into your meal maybe once per week? i would hate to go back to my old way of eating because i wasnot losing the weight like i am now on this diet...but because of health reasons i may have to....please i need suggestions?

blue, I used to get really bad migraines (result of accident). I have heard that certain foods trigger migraines. I wonder if you are possibly releasing toxins that you had stored up from your days of "not eating so well".

well i ate well(well i thought i was) because i was doing the danas plan/my modified version of it....i mean all that i would eat was the fruits veggies and baked chicken or fish...well i have a doctors appointment set up for tomorrow and see if i can get some medicine for the migraines...but i was just seeing if anyone else had the same results from a low calorie/low carb diet...

What's your daily water intake? I ask because one time when I was on the atkins diet I noticed that if I didn't drink at least 8 glasses a day while on it I got very nauseous and was unable to keep anything down. The next time I did it I made sure a drank 6-8 glasses a day and I was okay. If I remember correctly they said that it is important to consume lots of water while doing the low carb diet in order to flush the toxins out of your system. Since I wasn't drinking much water I think this was the reason for my nausea.
Now I've never done Dana's Plan so your symptoms may be because of something else, especially if you're getting migraines but maybe this is a possible factor as well. HTH!

thanks i really have not been drinking not too much water maybe up to 4 glasses or less a day...but that may also be the cause because i wasnot consuming water...and i made sure that i didnot pickup anymore cases of diet soda when i went to the grocery store yesterday..but thanks so much for the suggestion...

I tried doing the Dana plan and it made my head hurt and made me dizzy and sick. I didn't really want to get out of bed. The negatives far outweighed the 5 lbs. I lost. Adding wheat bread and oatmeal everyday cured it though.

okay thanks are you still eating like the meat and veggies and fruit and just instead having oatmeal for breakfast.... i just brought the oatmeal bars and i had them they arent too bad...

I didn't have any problems like this (or any problems at all) from doing 'Dana's Plan'. It's probably because I'm used to low carb eating.

yeah my body is so crazy when it comes to adjusting to taking away so much out of my diet...ive been adding some carbs back in...but i think starting tomorrow im going back straight on it...and going to stop overloading on the carbs and try to maybe do the oatmeal bar thing for breakfast and then from their fruit, veggies, and meats and also the water again...i liked how i looked from losing but hated the way i felt....yuck...
