It's been 10 days since my first Microdermabrasion experience and I am very happy with the results :) (Sorry no pics ladies)

I usually go to see the esthetician in my derm's office for monthly facials, and this was something we have been discssing for the last 4 months. In January I went home on vacation (Trinidad/Tobago) and was very careful to avoid the sun. When I did have to step out, I used my sunscreen and at the beach my face was covered with a wide-brimmed hat. This is important no matter where you are since you will be paying good money to even tone and remove marks. Staying in the sun unprotected is simply counterproductive. She also advised to stick with my Differin gel before the appointment -- I shouldnt use Retin-A before or after this appointment.

Two weeks after returning to Miami, I attended my first appointment -- warning: I may miss a couple little details/steps here... She cleansed my skin and performed a mini-facial w/steam to extract any blackheads. She then cleansed it again and proceeded to use the mircoderm machine on my skin. She started at a setting of 10 (units?? no idea) and proceeded to a setting of 15 once I told her that it was comfortable (max she had was 76 and none of her patients have ever used near that setting). It was just like a little vacuum hose being methodically passed across your face - very slight stinging in sensitive spots like the temples. She went over my face a second time and that was it. She then cleaned, applied a mask, removed it, used the infrared?? and then the oxygen treatments, moisturizer and sunscreen. And that was it - same hour long time as my regular facial.

Let me tell you - my face was tight and shiny, but the tone on my cheeks where I recently had some marks was visibly improved. The pores on my nose were finer as well as on my cheeks near my nose. By the next day, my skin was just glowing and I noticed that I did not have any new eruptions on my face. I am extremely excited about that. I think that by removing that layer of dead skin cells, my pores had a whole lot less to become congested with. I've seen a couple of tiny blackheads since then, but I am back to my reg routine to control those. I have seen only 1 whitehad this week and NO "underground" cysts.

I hope that sharing this will encourage someone who is worried about marks on their skin. I will be returning in 3 weeks for my next appointment - I will prob try to do at least 4 or 5. They are expensive $120 (vs. 65 for a facial)but she gives me free products all the time - Differin gel, cleansers, moisturizers, etc. And if you purchase a package, there is a good discount. Another nice thing about going in the derm office is that the doctor will pop in to administer a hydrocortisone shot to a bad cyst or for consultation during the esth. visit.

My skin regimen and product list are in my journal, and if you are looking for a competent derm. and esth. in Miami, PM me for info.

Glad you like the results..I had mircoderm recently and my skin was soooo smooth. I ususally get a facial with glycolic peel, but decided to get the Microderm with peel to help with the dark spots.
