A few months ago ever since I started drinking more water, I sometimes have a bloated feeling and can get constipated. How do I know if I'm drinking too much or too little water? I drink anywhere from 1000 - 2000 mL a day. I weight around 144 pounds. Does anyone else have these feelings? Could something else be wrong with me?

I do not think drinking more water causes constipation. About 7 years ago I went from about 3 cups a day to 12-15. I have noticed when I have not had much fiber in my diet constipation is a consequence, so I make sure to get at least 25g of fiber a day.

Water absolutely does NOT cause constipation. If you are constipated, water would actually be quite beneficial. :yep: If you want to know how much water is right for you, that would not be too much for your body...Take your weight and divide it by 2. 144/2= 72 oz. of water per day

I have found that I become constipated/bloated when I do not have enough fiber in my diet. Since I am a picky eater sometimes I don't eat alot of foods that are high in fiber, so I use a fiber supplement in powder form and add it to my drinks when needed. You can find fiber supplements in the tablet and powder form at any health food store. I prefer the supplements with no added sugar or flavors.

Oh. Now I remember learning this is biology that not getting enough water causes constipation. 72 oz. is approx. 2,130 mL so I guess I'm not drinking enough water.
:scratchch When I think about what I just asked... I acutally mean I get this "full" feeling like you get after you eat a big meal... that's what I mean. :yep:

Poohbear,
In addition to increasing your water intake, consider including more fiber-rich foods in your daily diet. I use to have chronic constipation. Now I try to eat a salad at least once a day, along with some whole grains (brown rice and/or whole wheat bread). Now I'm very regular and pain-free. You can also get fiber in liquid form. I sometimes take Metamucil.

I almost didn't recognize who you were in your avatar! You look so different....very nice. :yep:
Anyway, about the full feeling, that's also a benefit when you're dieting because it allows you to eat less and not feel like you're starving. :D

I know this post is old, but you may be feeling bloated because of the constipation. If you are constipated for long enough, you start to feel bloated.
