I hands are sooooooooooo damn rough and I'm tired of it. They feel like sandpaper!
Lately, I've just been using Nivea hand cream as my travel-size moisturizer, but it tends to get greasy and just make my hands dirty. :nono:
I need some sort of intensive treatment that I can do on a weekly basis (at least) to cure this dry hand thing. :cry3:
I've thought of:
-parraffin wax treatments
-vaseline and hand mitts at night (plastic and cloth)
...that's it...any ideas?

This may sound crazy, but I've noticed that after I apply Nair to my legs with my hands, the palms of my hands are VERY SMOOTH after I wash them off. Maybe you can try that follwed up by cocoa butter lotion.

I have suffered with dry hands for two years now, and the only two things that have consistantly worked for me are Mane n' Tail Hoofmaker Nail, Hand & Body Lotion and CocoCare Shea Butter Cream. After I apply the Shea Butter Cream or Mane n' Tail Hoofmaker, I put disposable synthetic gloves (latex gloves are very drying, so I always use synthetic) on for about 15-20 minutes to seal in the moisture. Works like a charm!!! HTH!:)

Miracle - Sounds like a winner! I think I'm going to try vaseline tonight though. Good ole petroleum jelly still works for my feet when covered w/ socks. So, I'm going to try sleeping in hand mitts. That seems VERY incovenient, but I'm going to try it out.
Kitty - The same thing happens to me, but I worry about having Nair sitting on my hands. I always wash the Nair off afterwards until my hands aren't squeaky.

I have the same problem, does scrubbing hands with pumice or foot scrub work?

A Burt's Bees hand treatment system would be great for you. It consists of some beeswax and banana hand creme that is great. I use mine constantly. The consistency is thick, so it's nice for really dry skin. Then you get some shea butter creme and some lemon butter cuticle creme. There is also a set of gloves in there. If you know someone that goes to a college bookstore that sells it, they can get it for you cheaper than trying to get it anywhere else.
For the meantime, regular old canned Crisco should get you started.

When my hands get like that, first I use a scrub, then I put Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair cream mixed with Aquaphor (which is like vaseline) on them and put on gloves overnight. Sometimes instead of Eucerin/Aquaphor, I use a mixture of shea butter, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil and vitamin E oil.
Shea butter is very good for dry hands.

Here's what I've done in the past to get satiny hands, and it works best as a night treatment:
YOU WILL NEED:
A hand-wash basin (sink)
Mary Kay Satin Hands and Body Cleansing Gel (http://www.marykay.com/Shopping/Spa/695000.asp)
Mary Kay Satin Hands and Body Buffing Cream (http://www.marykay.com/Shopping/Spa/130900.asp)
Vaseline Petroleum Jelly
Any lotion
Cotton Gloves
Wet hands.
Put a nickel-size amount of Mary Kay Satin Hands and Body Cleansing Gel (http://www.marykay.com/Shopping/Spa/695000.asp) in one hand.
Add to that, a good size amount of Mary Kay Satin Hands and Body Buffing Cream (http://www.marykay.com/Shopping/Spa/130900.asp).
Rub the two together and use the mixture to gently massage your hands for a few minutes. Don't forget to work on your knuckles and cuticles.
Rinse your hands off and dry them.
Immediately scoop about half the amount of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly you'd need to smooth over your entire hands and rub your hands together to melt it, but don't apply it yet.
Pour into one hand a drop of any good lotion (doesn't have to be thick) and rub your hands together to mix it with the Vaseline. You should get a creamy consistency.
Now smooth the "cream" over you hands and massage it in well.
Wear cotton gloves.
Your hands should feel a lot softer and smoother. It's not advisable to do the scrub often since the skin on the back of the hands is delicate, but the Vaseline/lotion mix can be your all-time "hand cream" and it'll help keep you hands soft.

A good homemade exfoliating hand softener can be made my mixing 1/4 cup of cornmeal and two tablespoons of vegetable oil in a bowl. You can add the contents of a Vitamin E capsule if you like. Holding your hands over the bowl, gently massage the mixture into them as above for a few minutes, again remembering to spend time on cuticles and knuckles. Then wash your hands with a gentle soap like Dr Bronner's Castile Soap (http://www.drbronner.com/soaps.html). Once dry, you can apply the "hand cream" from the treatment above.

I agree with Nonie.
Also, vaseline on wet hands is great at night time.
For the past week and a half I have been massaging Dabur Vatika hair oil into my hair and scalp at night. I noticed my hands are really soft. It may or may not be because of the hair oil but coconut oil is the main ingredient so you may like to try something coconut oil based as it's natural too.
Also, try wearing household gloves whenever you do housework and also leather gloves when you go out. It really helps me.:)

I was raised on Avon products, and have been blessed with smooth, soft skin as a result. I really believe in the products, especially the lotions. I have been using Avon Moisture Therapy for about a year now. Avon Moisture Therapy is available in a body lotion, which may also be used as a hand cream, as well as a hand cream in a tube. I use both, on a daily basis, especially in the winter. When I am diligent and consientious with applying to my hands, they are soft, and my nails are strong.
Additionally, I use Aquaphor. It is petroleum-based product available on the mass market. I use this nightly before bed on my feet, as I suffer from extreme dryness and cracking on my heels. It has been a miracle cure. I sometimes apply to my hands and my lips as well.
My father has applied Vaseline® to his hands nightly for as long as I can remember. For a man of 72, he has hands which are softer than those of most women!
Last: Always protect your hands from cold and water. I wear rubber gloves when doing dishes, and I wear gloves during the winter, even when going to the mailbox.
