Beyonce lost too much weight? I'm trying to lose weight now just to flatten my stomach, but I don't want to have to lose so much weight that I will lose my thickness! U know what I mean?
Right now I'm 5'2", 160 lbs and a size 14. I have been anywhere from a size 10 to a size 16. When I got down to a size 10, I gained all of my weight back on purpose just because I felt I looked too small even though I was a size 10. I remember when I met my boyfriend after dating for a while, he always commented on my thickness. And I noticed when I did get down to a 10, I didn't get those "thicky thick" :) compliments anymore. Don't get me wrong, I know I need to be satisfied, but I like the thick look on myself. I admired Beyonce curvy thicker shape when she first came out and now when I see pics (like the pics w/ her, J.Lo and David Beckham), I can't help, but notice she has gotten ALOT smaller. I personally think she looked better with a lil' more meat.

Am I thinking crazy or what? I wouldn't mind keeping my size 14 hips, but just get my waist down from a 33 to like a 29 or 30. How many of ya'll r trying to lose weight, but still want to keep your big hips, thighs and curvy shape?

I'm with you. At my lightest weight (120lbs at 5'5"), I felt skinny and just flat all over, but I was working out a lot so it took me a minute to gain some weight back. I definitely love my curves and have no intention of losing them again so while I'm dieting and doing lots of cardio, I make sure I do a lot of weights so that I can tone and sculpt my body. Bey is probably under a lot of pressure to lose weight. It's funny how both her and JLo were much heavier when they started and while the media always wants to comment on how they represent "normal" looking women, they've both had to lose significant amounts of weight to get where they are now. Very sad.

I understand what you're saying. But it's pretty much impossible to lose weight in one area of your body (spot reduce) and not lose it everywhere else. If you lose weight, your waist measurement will go down, but so will your hip measurement.

Essence did an article a while back about African American women and their weight/health. They talked about how we can tend to want to hold on to extra weight to please our men, because that's what they like. But the ultimate priority has to be maintaining a weight that's healthy for YOU, whatever you and your doctor decide that weight is.

I'm 5'3.5" and I'm at 160...in about a size 12. I want to lose down to a 6 or an 8 simply because I've got 3 years before I hit 30 and it gets harder to lose. I'll be thick no matter what size I am though...with a big old booty and hips because they run in my family. I like my size now, but I'm scared that with all of the large women in my family I will be a large woman as I get older if I don't nip it in the bud now and establish healthy habits.

I don't think Beyonce lost too much weight. I think she's still a little thick. She still has those hips and thighs. Now J-Lo -- she's too thin. She lost too much weight. In those pics from the Pepsi ad, J-Lo looked so small.

You can't always go by photoshoots, because just like the videoclip of Whitney that had to be airbrushed a while back...the pics of Bey may have been touched up. What we see can be SOO deceiving.

i'm with webby. in those pepsi pics, they are hella airbrushed. but in her candid pics wiht jay and at games and such beyonce is still thick. take a look at that pic from them performing at the all-star game. beyonce is still thick. as for losing curves i think it has to do with your body shape. if you're pretty much straight up and down, if you lose weight thats how you're gonna look the fat conceals that for a lot of people so they see it as losing curves when it isn't. the one thing i can be grateful for is that i have an horglass figure and i'm not so fat that i cant see that. i have a small waist and i have good hips so my shape no matter how small i get will always have a curvaceous look. I've got a booty and some thighs to match so i'll be fine. it really all depends on your actual body type. if you're smal on the bottom, you'll always be small on the bottom, just smaller all over. what i am afraid of though is losing the breastases!!!

girl, me too! I'm scared of losing the girls! I may have a chance since I really only got them plump here lately from the epo pills.

I had an hourglass until I had my 3 babies. Hopefully it is still under there somewhere! LOL...

This explains something that has always puzzled me. Amongst black women, what I consider very overweight is said to be "thick" or "curvy", and what I consider obese is referred to as overweight. Meanwhile, diabetes and heart disease are running rampant. Recently, I read/saw somewhere that 1 in 3 women (particularly black and hispanic) die of heart disease, while only 1 in 30 are dying of breast cancer.

I think Bey is a lot bigger than the professional pics make her look. If you see candid shots of her, she looks big to me. And I don't mean big in a bad way. She's a big, healthy girl. Nothin wrong with hips, and thighs. I think she has a great shape, and when she's tone, she looks flawless. Not everyone can/should be skinny.

I realized that I was fighting my natural curves until recently when I gained 35 pounds. There was nothing wrong with me when I was a size 8-10, though at the time, I thought I was obese!

ITA. IMHO, ethnic women have a very skewed version of what "thick" really is. I don't want to step on anyone's toes and do not intend to offend anyone here, but at 5'2, a size 10 is more than just "thick". I know because I am only 5'3.

Also, I think that one can be "curvy" at any size....small, medium or large.

You can't monolithically say that a size 10 who is 5'2" is beyond thick, implying fatness or obesity, because everyone does not have the same shape or muscle and bone structure.

I am 5'7". I weigh about 165. I don't even know what size I wear now ... probably a 10. But there are many women who are my height and weight who look substantially larger than I do and wear a larger size.

Beyonce did lose too much weight. I think there is a lot of pressure to whittle down, and it is so evident when you see black female entertainers emerge on the scene looking one way, and then shrinking up into something almost unrecognizable. Blu Cantrell is another example. And so is Faith Evans. I think women look better with some curvature. I'd certainly rather have Beyonce's pre-Hollywood body over Michelle and Kelly's pre-pubescent looking frames.

I don't think Beyonce lost too much weight. She isn't even skinny or thin, she looks like she is a very normal size. And to top it off, she still has hips and a booty...Sure she doesn't have too much in the booby area but thats just the way she is shaped.

IMO she would have lost too much weight if she lost her curves but those mofos haven't gone anywhere. Plus when she had gained weight she had started to get flabby in the tum.

I totally agree....there are so many factors that goes into the way a person looks...so a blanket it you're 5'2 and size 10, you're fat...is just wrong. Also someone mentioned something about health. I hate when people associate being thick or overweight with being unhealthy. Healthy doesn't = skinny or thin. Terms like overweight and obese are terms associated with having a certain BMI and if everything was so black and white...all bodybuilders would be considered obese. Healthy comes in all shapes and sizes.

I believe that you can be curvy at any size. My motivation to lose weight came out of frustration. I have a 46" hip measurement( yes you read that correctly). I am 5'6" and wear a size 14. The 14 s were getting too tight and I am NOT interested in moving to the Women's section of the department store :ohwell: I have a similar build to Jlo and Beyonce (smaller on top/ booming on the bottom). Most of my weight gain shows on my hips/thighs, but this time around my stomach started expanding...and that's NOT sexy. :nono:

I would have to agree that at 5'2, a size 10 i.e 140+/-, is overweight.
It's nothing that getting the body in motion and cutting back on junk can't easily fix.

Here's my opinion,

I think that the most important thing is for YOU to feel good and sexy about yourself.
The next thing that is important to me is to be in shape. But that's just me.
For example Beyonce. Now when she first came out she was thick, she was not toned and her belly was jiggly.
When you look at her now, yes she dropped some pounds, her butt sticks out more (because when you look at the very first album cover her butt was as flat as a pancake and you can see her from the side at that). Beyonce will never be slim. She will always be thick. She might have a six pack but her legs are big. And when she perfoms and you see her on tv they look huge.

So my point is that if you're thick now I think you'll still be thick. You will tone up more and get firmer in certain places. Working out will always make you look and feel better. Don't be worried about losing too much weight or getting too skinny. Just work out with weights and you'll be alright.

Ok I just read some of the other answers.

I have to say that all that Beyonce lost was FLAB. That's it. And she's more toned. She did not lose TOO much weight.
If a person loses too much weight so that it looks unhealthy you can tell it by looking at their faces or arms being too skinny.
Beyonce is still a healthy girl. All she did was started working out and stopped eating popeye's chicken.

And to me being thick CAN look nice but you should be toned. Your stomach should not be in any type of competition with your backside if you know what I mean. Cause I see a lot of girls who wear the tightest jeans cause they think they need to show their backside and thick thighs but there are just rolls hanging over the waistband of the jeans and also lovehandles that make you want to run. And that is not cute.

Another thing to me is this, women like Beyonce who work out and still are thick, that's fine because that's just what their body type is like.

But then there are girls who think they're thick and they just eat and don't work out because they want to hold on to that thickness, which is not thickness but fat. Just mho.

Now see...I know all about losing the breastases! When I did drop down to a size 10, I dropped from a DD to a big small C! It was so devastating. :) Now I'm back up to a D.
