View Full Version : Cardio b4 or after weights?

Does anyone know if you are supposed to do cardio before or after weights if you do them in the same day? I am doing cardio fat just to flatten my stomach as much as possible. And then doing weights to keep my "thickness" on the bottom half. And I don't have time to split up my workouts, so I am going to do cardio and weights (the leg work) two days a week and then another cardio session another day per week.

So does anyone know if this is okay to do both in the same day? And if so, which one do you do first?

It doesn't matter, really, unless you want to split hairs about maximizing fat loss.

note: I'm not an expert on the subject, but read up tons on weighttraining and fat loss.

They say that resistance training first depletes the muscles of it's glucose supply (comes from carbs). So, when you hit your cardio, your body is pulling much more energy from fat.
Some people don't like investing 5,10, or 15 minutes doing cardio warmup, then have to get off and do resistance. They'd rather stay another 20 minutes or however long, then do weights. What I don't like about this is that it doesn't leave your muscles as fresh for good, controlled movements, which is important for a quality resistance workout (you don't want to half-step!).


Personally, I enjoy weights first, then cardio. Who wants to leave all that sweat and sludge around on the machines? And *ick* I sweat between my legs and can't stand for people to see it while working w/ weights. :bath2:

I agree...Maximizing fat loss they say its best to do weights first for the reason stated above....weight training depletes glucose sources so that when you start your cardio...you're energy is coming from fat sources.

depends on your priority. For me I do it after my weight training. I want my strength for pushing weight.

Thanks everyone! For some reason, I like getting my elliptical out of the way before I do weights. From what ya'll said it really doesn't matter, so I'll stick with it. Thanks!

Personally, I like to do weights first because I am trying to sit down after 45 minutes of cardio!
