Go for a run. All the deep breathing will force you to cough up the phlegm rather than waiting for it to work its way up. You'll get healthy faster.

There's a new OTC medication out late 2004 that helps clear phlegm, but I only remember the cartoon commercials, not the name.

Yeah, Mucinex is supposed to be really good for getting rid of phlegm. Have you been to the doctor? Green mucous might be a sign of infection or bronchitis.

I did the master cleanse one time when I had a sinus infection...cleared it right on up. I only did it for 1 day. I had re-curring sinus infections before I started doing this, and I would always have to get an antibiotic. No more!

Make sure it's not bronchitis. I had it 2 years ago and it was yellow first and then green - the longer I waited. Whenever I exhaled even slightly, I would cough violently.

It may not be... if it was you would know, but at least check with your doctor or advise nurse.

I am still getting over a sinus infection. Here's what really helped me the most. Purchasing a cool mist humidifier , a netti pot, consuming soup, tea, sitting in the steam room, going on short walks and plewnty of bed rest...

netti pot ( I know it looks scary but it works )http://www.scand-yoga.org/english/shop/uk_neti.html

Be well

I've been having the same problem. I'm finally clearing up. Like many suggested to me, see a doctor so they can prescribe you an antibiotic. After two days of using the antibiotic, I'm starting to get better. Also, check out this thread I posted in the off topic discussion board on the very same day as you did: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50721&page=1&pp=10 (http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50721&page=1&pp=10)

Hope that helps!

To get rid of phlegm:

Drink lots of clear fluids eg water, green tea (for detox)

Steam Inhalation with essential oils (helps to clear the sinuses and loosen the phlegm in your chest)

Fill a bowl with hot water, add a few drops of essential oil - about 2-5 drops, sit over the bowl and cover your head with a towel. Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Lavender & Peppermint essential oils are very good for soothing and clearing and helping to get rid of bacterial infections.

Benefits of steam inhalation: http://www.alexandra-showers.com/spas/STEAMINH.HTM

The steam also helps to clear your skin (an added bonus);)

I personally don't really like or use antibiotics unless they are absolutely necessary and only as a last resort.

Get well soon:)

Like gum? Hope you get better soon!

My suggestion for phlegm is drinking lots of water, drinking ginger tea with lemon and honey - ginger breaks up that mucus. You can buy organic powdered ginger from the health store, ginger root from the grocery store, or ginger tea bags at the grocery store. Drink as much as you want (has other benefits too.)

Eat as much alkaline foods as possible, mainly veggies and fruits. Stay away from acid foods for a while, like meats, sugar, starchy foods like potatoes, white rice, breads, etc. Also, stay away from anything that creates more mucus, like milk and milk products. All colds and viruses cannot survive in an alkaline body. Colds and viruses thrive in an acidic body.

If you do take antibiotics, be sure to take a probiotic at the same time, like acidophilus. Antibiotics kill both the good and bad bacteria. Acidophilus replaces the good bacteria.

As CocoaButterflyy mentioned, you can get it at health food stores. I've learned it's most effective when it's refrigerated. For food sources, yogurt and kefir are good sources but they must say "live, active bacteria" on the label. Although I love yogurt, I prefer taking the acidophilus capsules.

Here are some links about it:
