View Full Version : Purifier of Silver

Don't know if this has been posted before but I received it in an email and thought it too beautiful a message not to share:Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy - when I see my image in it."
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Wow, Nonie..that's beautiful...it just confirms that God will never leave or forsake you and he'll never give you more than you can handle. I've had to remember these things, because I've been feeling a lot of heat over the past few months. Thank you, Jesus!

I'm so glad you posted this :clapping: :yay:, I received this in an email back in 2003. I printed it out and hung it on my wall at work but after I left that job, I took it down and misplaced it. This scripture was the topic of a conversation I had with a friend from church just this past Saturday. Thanks for posting it. I'm subscribing to this thread so I can have access to it at all times. God bless you.

Thank you soooo much for sharing this! I REALLY REALLY NEEDED IT!!!
I'm going through a lot right now and before I went into this trial, It was shown by God that I was silver to be purified. That was 2 years ago. I looked up the purification process, however, it was really cut and dry so I was still left with questions. This story really breaks it down for me.
The fire is really tearing me up and there were times that I literally thought I would die because of my condition. This gives me sooo much hope that He has not forgotten me. I really hope that one day, I can be someone that He can be proud of when I'm done with this process.
Thanks again for posting that Nonie. You don't know how much my spirit needed this. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_44.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZS)

Noni, I just 'broke', and it's a good thing. For God so loves us, how much, we'll never be able to fathom.
I can remember the first time I allowed my son to walk to school by himself. At the time, he was only 9 years old; the school wasn't far and he wanted to be a 'big boy' as his other friends and school mates.
There were a couple of bullies along the way, but I had to let my son walk through the 'fire' for my taking him to school each day was the reason he was being teased. As he walked up the street, I watched him the entire time until he was almost out of sight. Of course I followed...:look: just to make sure.
Even as an adult, and I see him go through the fires of life, I'm still 'follow' behind, but only in prayer, covering him each day.
What you shared with us about the refining process of silver is the ultimate of a loving parent who is our Father God who art in Heaven, who is also our Jehovah Shamah, omnipresent...always there; always love.
God bless you, precious one of love, in the heart of refinement...

Amen...A very loving Amen. I was about to turn in when I noticed this. I'm so glad that God 'met' me where I've been spending so much of my time...right here in this forum.
My Lord...who couldn't love our God? Only those without Him...:(
