I have and still do but am unsure where to start...I take that back...I know I have to lose weight first but....has anyone ever accomplished their goal of becoming one and actually competed? I'm in the process of doing it....I'm trying to get some pics done I have to have a headshot & 2 full-body shots (1 from the front & 1 from the back) to sent to Shape & Fitness mags. Also my sister is trying out for a Ms. Fitness USA competition.

I used to watch the Miss Fitness USA contests every year and aspire to be there. Then I got real lazy :p

I think that is a great start though tha Blessed1 mentioned, submitting to fitness magazine. I think the Miss Fitness contest has a website too, so search for that.

A poster here name Taliah was doing it... hopefully she'll come back to help you.

What I'd do is type in google "how to be a fitness model" and start there.

I have wanted to become a fitness model since I was a child, I started working out hard in high school up until college. Then, I somewhat fell off the bandwagon when I had my children. I never stopped working out, but I did become unmotivated to really push it. I am working on getting my body where it needs to be in order to compete in a few years. I am always on www.fitnessamerica.com I go here for information and to see what the competition looks like. LOL ;)

Wow!!! I'm impressed...Were you concerned at all with losing too much weight/fat in areas that usually look great when there is a little extra padding?Breasts,hips,butt...ya know!

I guess what I'm asking...Is there a way to get lean and avoid that or what?

Blessed1:
Submitting to fitness mags....that is a good idea.

Carrie:
wow......you look great in your avatar...bodybuilding is deeeeep. I know for a fact that competing in fitness competitions and bodybuilding is a sport...it takes dedication and determination just like any other sport...Good Luck on your switch over

Genesis:
Thank you for that website
There are a couple of websites that I go on

www.fitness-model-advice.com

Good luck kandyland, I'm sure you'll make it! Who knows maybe instead of a video vixen challenge they'll be doing the "kandyland kontest" ;)

I was really interested in it in college. I even met Monica Brant once and she was so nice and helpful. I thought that maybe she would be all condenscending and think that no one else knows anything but she wasn't at all. Since starting graduate school I have gone steeply down hill, my Oxygen's are going unread but I finally have more time now so all of that is gonna change. I'm no longer interested in competing but I like the look and the health challenges/benefits. Do any of you guys have a background in gymnastics or do you plan on sticking to the competitions that are looks alone?

CuteBajanGirl:
you're so right.....Tanji Johnson was at a competition in NYC back in March and she placed so passing her in the hall afterwards I told her congratulations, she was real nice...I think her sister competes now too...safiya johnson.

For me, for now, I would lean more towards Figure competitor vs Fitness Competitor. I really can't visualize learning hand stands and back flips at my age....I guess never say never but..hmmm

Blessed1:

Kandyland Kontest....hmmm ***rubbing chin****

All I can add is that no matter what you choose, do it for you. There isn't a whole lot of money in Fitness. The mags like Oxygen and MF hers usually don't pay the girls alot (if any) for shoots. And the more mainstream mags like Shape and Fitness don't like muscle on the girls.

Competition wise, my advice is compete for you and unless you are a gymnast or an amazing dancer choose Figure not Fitness.

Wow- i'm inspired. this sounds like a great idea....and one I plan to incorporate into my 2005 resolutions. I was planning to get to my goal weight and maintain but I think this would be even more fun, not really to do professionally just to know that I could compete. It's on- I think my plan of action is to give myself 10 weeks to lose the extra padding and the rest of the year to maintain my weight while gaining some musculature. i'm going to track it all in my journal but if anyone wants to discuss pm me.

Wow, this is a great thread. I have thought about this one time before, when I was working out more. I didn't know so many women were interested in this field.

Can someone tell me the name of this black female that is/was on the Dec or Jan cover of some women's fitness magazine, I can't remember her name, but I want to google her. They had a long interview with her in the magazine.

TIA!
