Is there anyone here who drinks coffee regualry and notice that it has a significant effect on the health of their hair. Since i relaxed my hair i have been experiencing very minimal shedding and breaking. I've been drinking coffee almost everyday now for the last month and i have notice that my hair is shedding ALOT more and i'm not sure if this is tied to my new caffine habits. What do you think?? Has this every happened to anyone?

I drink coffee about once a day. I don't notice any difference in my hair. The only thing is sometimes I feel a slight addiction to it.

Careful not to drink too much, consuming more than 2-8oz servings daily may lead to heart palpitations (caffeine is a drug), dehydration, and nervousness. I haven't seen any health claims regarding caffeine & hair though...

i LOVE my coffee!!! that's the only form of caffeine i injest.

as of JAN. 1, 2005 i will (plan to) be off coffee.

i've been a regular m-f coffee drinker for the past 6 years. so i can't really say if i've experienced alot of shedding.

but i'm giving it up...just actually as a test to see what happens after giving it up!!

read..[lack of anything better to do!!]

but caffeine i've read does actually have health benefits. i guess everything in moderation!?

It's not the coffee, but the caffeine, which can deplete you of B vitamins. One of the B complex factors, namely inositol, is one of the fastest to be depleted if you have a lot of caffeine daily. Inositol is necessary for hair growth.

With me, I have one cup of instant coffee daily. It wakes me up, doesn't bother me and it does taste good. The rest of my caffeine comes from tea, usually black and green teas. I try to limit myself to three cups of tea daily. Sometimes I make it and sometimes I don't. If it's a cold day like today, I've been known to sip on a nice pot of oolong throughout the day.

I have to say that I've never noticed any extra shedding if I've had lots of tea. If anything my hair color looks richer.

I have to say that I agree with the person who said that moderation is the key. The other thing is that if you find that you are particularly sensitive to caffeine, be that feeling jittery or having some hair shedding, you might want to get rid of it.

I am a heavy coffee drinker. Can't say that I notice a difference.I am too. I haveent noticed but maybe its because I've never not drank coffee. I'll try giving it up (IF I CAN) for a little while and see if my hair does better. Its worth a shot, anything for longer hair.

I used to drink coffee (mochas) twice a day and stopped after I began the Atkins diet which restricts caffeine and sugar the first few weeks. I don't believe caffeine causes damage to your hair but I do believe you will see greater thickness and growth if you opt for decaf.

According to Crown and Glory caffeine works against your B vitamins so if you're a vitamin junkie like me you're preventing your vitamins from working to their full potential.

I have been a coffee drinker for years and once I removed it from my diet I noticed improvements in my hair. :)
