I have a pretty stressful job, and an even more stressful homelife. Any tips for destressing? All of this stress is causing my hair to break off, and that is driving me NUTS. But I figure since the new year is coming, I need to make relaxing my main focus.

Most of my destressing techniques involve me being alone..

hot baths with candles, music, wine etc etc

Check into a nice hotel for the weekend

Read a good book

Cooking

Exercising

Massage

Bella, I am the queen of stress.

I'd just like to add to what Pink said. I have learned to implement the following:

Yoga
Deep breathing exercises
A long walk in a park or any place that you like
Prayer - I have been trying to stay in prayer, regarding my temper and stress. This is the ultimate stress reliever. Trust Him.

co-signing on what webby said about staying in prayer. There were times the past few months when I felt that my life was falling apart and the only way I got through was trusting him and continuing to pray. Also the deep breathing exercises help as well.

I do yoga, it's hard to think about your problems while your downward-dogging :p

-mediation/ yoga /exercise
-time in the sauna;)
-window shopping( for furniture & creature comforts is a new fav)
-staying in for a few evenings to read, make tea, do nothing helps me a bunch to stay sane
-morning walks, preferrably foggy cold ones=
-Lots of prayer:)
-Lately --the realization that I am 'stressing' myself out by attaching to the outcome of situations that present as annoying etc.... so, to counteract that fact, I have been repeating ( quite frequently of late ) "Let Go--and Let God".. as a result I am feeling much calmer. Yeah;)
-organizing my stuff  has been quite the de-stressor. I am somewhat obsessed with getting my life in order.. and an unexpected beenie is that I am experiencing less stress..Plus the act of cleaning up & out takes my mind off 'stuff':look:
-Treating myself to a special treat..helps remind me that " I AM MY BEST THING" - & I better treat me right ....( examples: massages, beauty products, candles)

Be well, & Happy Holidays Everyone !

Taking 20 min for myself at the same time everyday. I let everyone know that I will not be available during that time period. Most times I'm just in the back yard w/my MP3 player.

Thanks! However, I already do some of this stuff, and none of it seems to be working!

I read EVERY day.
I listen to music ALL THE TIME (I own over 500 CD's and still counting!).
Hot baths with candles, music once a week.
Home pedicures.

Maybe getting away alone will help.

Try taking vitamin B complex and calcium/magnesium. B vitamins de-stress and calcium and magnesium help the body relax. I notice a difference when I consistently take my supplements!

Question for you--when you are doing those activities (like listening to the CD's) are you still thinking about the things that are stressing you out or not? That's why meditation/yoga can be good because you are focusing on something PHYSICAL (i.e. your breathing,e tc.) and not all the stressful mental stuff.

Buy myself some facial mask, pedicure and manicure sets, sweet smelling lotions :) I also buy something like a pretty journal to write my thoughts. I like going to barnes and noble which I ususally spend at least 2 hours looking at different books :)

That's my destresser when am all stressed out :)

I am completely caught up in the music, the books...etc.

Nearly three years later, and nothing much has changed. Well, I finally quit that awful job with the boss from hell, but everything else is still stressful. Any new ideas?

By ranting and raving about the stuff that riles me up and stresses me out with a therapist weekly. Heck its free and better than unloading or going off on friends and family.:) I also take mini trips/haitus to one of my favorite places to do the things I love in the city I love.
