Has anyone heard of how you can get boots "taken in", like you would get pants "taken in"? Has anyone ever done this? What's the cost? My calves are not big enough for most boots to fit snug the way they are supposed to

Sorry, I haven't heard of this but I can't see how its possible for someone to "take in" leather like that. Sounds like it would be expensive though...

Thx ladies....I really would like some knee length boots or at least mid-leg, but they are always so "baggy" on me. I want it to look sleek. I will keep searching.

Yes, it is possible. I have done it before, but I went to many shoe repair places before I found "my shoe man". Many of them would not or could not do it. I recommend calling around first. I found my guy in KY, so I am sure you can find someone in NY. Too many women do not have legs big enough for these boots and some cobblers do recognize that. I am always having to have work done on my shoes--I no longer wear boots but almost every pair of sandals I have has to have the strap cut down and holes added /forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif. Anyway, good luck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Hey Ladies-
There is a thread on this same topic.

Yes, it is possible to do. I have had it done to 3 pairs of boots already. Unfortunately, the guy I went to is closed down. He was Downtown NYC in the Wall St. area. He used to charge me $30 - $40 per pair. I would suggest asking around also the boots have to have a seam for them to do it properly.

I asked about this a few weeks ago. I haven't bought any boots yet b/c I'm not sure where to get them taken in. If anyone finds someone who does this at a reasonable price then please let me know.

hi nycqt16. i've been getting this done for YEARS. i don't think my legs are skinny, but leather boots NEVER fit me & I've gotten all most all of my fav boots taken in. there is a place in the port authority on the upper level. there is also a place on either 35th or 36th on the northbound side of the street right near the 5th ave corner. there is also Hector's which I think is the best. It was on MetroTV:
Hector's Shoe Repair
11 Greenwich Avenue
212-727-1237

The downtown fashionista’s answer to midtown’s well-known Top Service, this shop is widely known for its speed—many jobs are done on the spot or overnight. It’s a bargain to boot: Full soles and heels are $42 to $45 for men and $25 to $30 for women, while a small tear in a shoe can be patched up for $10 in a day.

i happen to go to whichever place is convenient for me at the time depending on where i happen to be working in manhattan, although i haven't been to hectors. i spotted it when andre did a segment on where models take their shoes & fashion consultants take shoes that need work for fashion shoots & it's supposed to be so cheap there too.

I can totally relate. I found a pair at DSW about a year ago. I couldn't believe they fit my legs. Sometimes you can find smaller fits at Nine West.

I have a pretty pair of mauve boots from Euro Sko that's a little too big around my calves. I never thought of having them taken in. They're really cute!
