Hey ladies! I had to share my first professional facial experience today. I had a breakout on my forehead that wouldn't go away...it wasn't bad, just tiny little bumps all over the place (a result of using Dove Soap...just didn't work for me, I guess). So I went to a nail and skin spa near me, and lemme tell you...my pores haven't been this clean since I was in the womb! The lady spent about 20 minutes going over each little section of my face cleaning gunk out. The entire facial was really relaxing and lasted an hour. By the time I left, it was soooo much smoother than when I got there. I think I'm going to get this done once a month, and I think that along with my glycolic peels, my skin will be flawless in no time /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/wave.gif Hey Mocha, I know exactly what you mean. I went once and have been going every month since then. I told my family for this year's Christmas gift, that I only want gift certificates to this spa! I LOVE my results! And,it is soooo relaxing. I loaned my lil sis some money a while ago and let her just pay me as she could. Well, she paid the last of it this past weekend and gave me a G/C to the spa for a facial as a 'thank you' gift! /forums/images/graemlins/clap.gif I was soooo happy! That saves me for this month. BTW-what glycolic peel are you using? I got one done at the spa the last time...But, I did't "peel" hardly any! The lady said that b/c she had done extractions, that I may not peel much. /forums/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Howdy! I ordered a set of glycolic peels off EBay so I could do them at home...there's a 30%, 50%, and 70%. I'm going to start with the 30 and work up if I need to. How soon after you got the extraction did you get the peel? I forgot to ask that when I went to the salon...I love my result, but I don't want my face to combust or anything /forums/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif I wish I had gone to get facials earlier...they are wonderful!

I actually heard about it from a friend of my mother's. I went there to get my eyebrows waxed and found out that they do massages and facials, too. But I imagine that you can find one in the phone book...just go check it out first to see their clientele and make sure that they have all the proper licences (they're supposed to be posted in plain view)...hth!

Yes professional facials are relly benifical to the skin. I try to get one whenever I can. I go to a place called " The Spa At the Legrand", this place has been recommended my OPRAH. And the prices are great. I get the really deep facial with extractions and sometimes I get a light chemical peel. I can tell the difference in my skin right away. They also do great massages.

Hi Shorty DooWhop! You're down with Christine Valmy too?
LOL! Dang...so many people know now...lol.

I haven't been for a minute...cause it's cheaper to go during the daytime. The only downside is that when you get an aesthetician that you like that graduates - you wind up going to somebody else. I always tip extra, but it's well worth it with those prices. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Okay, excuse my ignorance. I'm just a hayseed who don't get out much, I guess.

But what exactly are extractions? And what does a facial consist of? And, lastly, what are the benefits.

Extraction are when they extract all the gook out of your pores that is trapped. Sometimes if you have pimples, they will gently pop them for you and apply some type of healing treatment.

Facial is usually a steaming of the pores to open them up, then the extraction process, then a mask usually follows.
I usually have some type of massage of shoulders or aromatherapy to accompany it.

Mona Lisa,
the first time I went, I was in heaven... No one told me about tipping etiquette so I asked the woman who did my facial. She was quick to let me know tips were ok.
But seriously, Christine Vhallmy's is great for the budget, and you leave feeling soo pampered... Why haven't I gone for this year..... /forums/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

I hear you ShortyDooWhop. Either I don't have the money and I have the time to go or I have the money and don't have the time. Christine Valmy used to have a few evening hours, but I think they stopped and they aren't open on the weekend unfortunately. Thank Goodness I have a facial steamer at home and some Biore...but I really am due a good facial.

Anyone know of a good place to get a facial in the Walnut Creek/Bay Area? I want one for my 35th birthday!

Facials are awesome esp if you have or have had problem skin. I am so hooked that I have had to add mine to my budget to account for the extra expense every month. But my face is glad, and hopefully next year I can graduate to peels and perhaps some microdermabrasion.

Mochalolita where'd you go? I've been thinking about getting a facial, but there are so many places in our area that I didn't know where to choose.

Okay, I got a facial today. Actually, the aesthician [spelling?] did an acne treatment, glycolic/lactic peel, and extractions. She did the extractions using her fingertips [she had on gloves of course]and it was not pleasant at all...that mess hurt! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif She used some sort of antiseptic to kill the bacteria...the thing is I didn't know I had that many tiny micrcospic blackheads...she asked me if I could see them and I said no...I mean they are tiny...I'm using some acne products but apparently they aren't killing the blackheads. She wants me to use her products now...and come back for 5 more treatments! My skin isn't that bad but apparently it's not perfect either. She charged $65 and her products cost $85 for a 7 week supply.
