Ok. I no longer get any type of breakout, and the few dark spots that I had from past breakouts are almost gone. I only have ONE skin thing to complain about. My face continues to sing 'Shine-On-Me' each and every day. I have tried so many products to help with facial shine, but nothing seems to last for long. Please post any products that help with a shiney face. BTW, it's not even a dewy look that I have. It's an oily slick look that I have. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hey Allandra...I have the same problem. I finally got my breakouts to cease, but I still have horribly oily skin, almost to the point of dripping. I can't skip moisturizer because my skin gets dry after washing, and when I do use it, even oil free, my skin get shiny within minutes. So I was really glad when I found Clinac O.C. It's a gel that controls oil, and it actually works. I've already tried the one by Clean and Clear and by Prescriptives, but the Clinac is the only one that works for me. I wash my face, then apply it, then put my oil free moisturizer over top of it. No more oily face, it actually works for the day (all through school and work). It's a little pricey, but well worth the expense cause you only have to use a little at a time. hth!
Hugs,
Crys

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My dermatologist gave me some of this stuff as well. Would you believe my oil can break through this? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Well, it does. However, I will give it another try. Geez, now I have clear SHINY skin. Oh well, something as GOT TO GIVE. LOL. Thanks.

I don't know if you have heard of this, but Milk of Magnesia (you know the white stuff that helps w/ stomach problems) is good for drying up oil on the face. You can either try to do a mask nightly (just slather it on your face and let dry and then rinse after cleansing your face) and see it that helps or put a very thin layer on your face in the morning before you put makeup on. It soaks up the oil. I have done this for my nose because my nose has the tendency to get shiny.

I have yet to find a product that really works well and I have the same problem- but in the t-zone area. What helps me out is to carry a pack of those blue oil absorbing sheets to blot with (by Clean& Clear) throughout the day. I have noticed that since the weather is changing, my skin is getting a little better/less oily. But those sheets do help better than anything else as far as keeping my makeup looking fresh. HTH!

I have really greasy clear skin as well. I have not found any long term fixes. Like Smilz I look forward to cold weather. The warm humid air, in combination with my own sweat make me super greasy in the summer. While it dries everyone else's skin, the cold actually sucks up the right amount of oil on my skin. It gives my skin a nice matte finish. In the spring I get the same effect by finishing off my skin care regimen with a piece of ice slid over my skin. It closes pores and it makes my skin smooth without the extra slime. In the summer it is just too darn hot. It never lasts. I have used those oil sucking sheets also and they do work but very temporarily. I use a pack a day. I am going to look for that Clinac product. I am willing to try anything.

I also use the blue oil absorbing sheets to blot my skin (by Clean & Clear). I'm anxious to see exactly how oily my oily skin will be this winter.

There was a Chinese medical study (re: acne) that gave subjects 10,000 grams of Pantothenic Acid / day. They took 4 doses a day of 2.5grams each. In addition to that, the subjects rubbed a Pantothenic Acid 20% cream on their faces (once or twice a day). Within months, the subjects acne cleared up tremendously. Apparently, those extremely high doses of Pantothenic Acid (B5) halt excessive sebum production. Less sebum = less oiliness = less blocked pores = less acne.
I would love to try this since I STILL get pimples, but I'm afraid to take such high doses of B5. However, since hearing about this study, I now take 500mg of B5 twice a day. I'm hoping to get some benefit from it.
You might want to try the B5 if you have a serious oiliness problem, as some people on skin boards on the net swear by this stuff. But, I would run it by my doctor before taking any extremely high doses.

Although my skin is very shiney, I don't get acne or have blocked pores. I don't think I'll be adding anything else to my vitamin regimen (ladies multi and liquid super b complex) since I'm on medication. I'm just gonna wait and see how the winter treats my oily skin. It looks like most products designed to keep away the shine are just temporary anyway. Oh well.

Hey BlkMane...I can vouch for the B-5 study...I started taking 10 grams a day, but just couldn't swallow so many pills (20!) and I cut down to 5 grams. My skin cleared up within a week, and the oil production got cut waaaaay down. I could tell the difference because, like Allandra, I tried the Clinac before, and it didn't make a dent in the shine factor, but now I can use it and my skin stays matte all day (and I usually have 18-20 hour days /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) I haven't had any adverse effects because of it. I hope that helps a little.
Hugs,
Crys
i plan to try that one out. my mac blotter is running low and i want to try to find something inexpensive until i can get a new mac powder. i hope this wont affect my skin negatively. God bless you all.

I know I am late! Have you ever tried Sheer Matteness by Clinique or Oil Mattifier by Mary Kay?
I have an oily T-Zone and those do the trick for me. The only thing about the clinique is that it leaves a white film that is noticeable if you don't rub it in REALLY well.

No, I haven't tried it. I'm just using the blotting papers for now.

Hey Allandra, can you tell me some more about this product? Is it a moisturizer? What else is used in conjunction with it? Does it give you a matte look but still with glow? Thanks.
Allandra

It's an instant matte finisher for shiny faces/oily skin. No, it's not a moisturizer. You can read more about it here: Origins (http://www.origins.com/) .

It's on their website (which is how I found out about it). From their homepage, scroll down to the bottom, and you will see 'please find this Origins product for me'. Type in the name (zero oil), and then click on find. It's there.

Great product rec Allandra. I went out today and bought this stuff at the mall. It was approx 1pm and my face had the whole shine thing going on. Well, I went to my car and put it on my face and JOILA! Zero Oil. This stuff really does work. Do you have to reapply after so many hours?
Also, while I was the mall I stopped at the Bath and Body Works and picked up a brush for dry brushing. Can't wait to try that later. They're having a sale on the salt scrubs, 2 for $24. I grabbed that up also in Sweet Pea.
Allandra

I only apply it once a day (EARLY in the morning).
I'll have to check out Bath and Body Works. I need to stock up on one of my favorite shower creams (like shower gel, but much thicker).

Ok. My face is still as shiney as a brand new penny. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry3.gif The good thing is, I don't have any breakouts. However, I'm still hating my shiney look. I guess I'm destined (or doomed) http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif to have a shiney face forever. At one time, I thought it may have also been because of my hair care products, BUT when I don't have anything on my hair, my face is still shining like the sun. I've even had my hormone levels (blood work) tested, and all is fine. Maybe I need to just move to the South Pole. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

I use the Oil Mattifier occasionally, but the Beauty Blotter sheet are 100% linen and work wonders on knocking out that shine ASAP! Just one positve note though. Oily skin holds in moisture better that dry skin so, as a result it take us "Oily Skin girls" a lot longer to develop, shall we say "Character Lines". So we stay younger looking for a long time. Isen't that great! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/Rose.gif

Allandra,
Weekly clay or oatmeal masks are essential in absorbing excess oil (sebum) I use Proactiv's Daily Oil Control, prior to applying my moisturizer. I've seen an improvement in my skin.

Allandra,
Is the shine on your face due to oil or is your skin just really reflective. I have found that my face is "shiny" most times just due to the texture of my skin. Our skin does relfect light more than caucasian skin due to the texture and the color of our skin. You may not need to alter your cleansing products, you may just need some pressed powder. All the matifying and oil abosrbing products in the world won't help if you just have reflective skin. I use pressed powder and it works pretty well.

I have very oily skin, I have been fighting it for years. I just now have been able to counteract the oily shine. The olive oil wash has helped me greatly, also (I don't know if you want to go this route) I found a foundation by estuee lauder that goes by the name of double matte foundation. This stuff keeps my face oil free all day. I don't have to dab with tissue or anything, it's pretty amazing. I hope this helps.

It's due to the oil on my skin (not my skin being really reflective). http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif My skin is VERY VERY oily.

I use Clarins toning lotion for oily or shiny skin, and I can see a big difference, my skin doesn't feel as greasy and shiny, but it's not dry either. I'm going to try their entire line for oily skin.

Hi Allandra http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/wave.gif
I have extremely oily skin also. Sometimes I look like I've dipped my face in Crisco http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. I found that using retin A 0.025% all over my face cut down the oil production by about 50%.
However in the extreme heat of summer it was wasn't enough and my excessive oil ,plus breakouts returned much to my dismay, so now I use klear pore system(the cheap version of procative) in the a.m. and retin A at nite and things are under control. Oil & breakouts. The Benzoyl Peroxide in the klear pore keeps the oil in check in the summer heat. Once fall/winter rolls around I'll stop using the klear pore.

Girl, we must be oily skin twins. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif My face also looks like I've been dipped in Crisco. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Maybe one day, it'll get better for me. I don't have any break-outs, but the shine is still a bit too much for me. I hope it'll at least calm down in the fall.

I've heard that Origins Out of Trouble mask is really good for oily skin. In the reviews that I read, everyone complained that it dried their skin out too much and said that it's best for super duper oily skin. I wanted to try it, but lately my skin hasn't been as oily as it used to be. I guess it's due to me getting older http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Sithembile,
I would like to try the Clarins skin care line. My girlfriend uses their products and her skin looks GREAT!
She has oily-skin, and decided to use Clarins because natural extracts are in their products.
I recently went to WWW.CLARINS.COM (http://www.CLARINS.com) and I took a Personal Skin Care Test. This test allows you to better understand what Clarins products are designed for your specific skin-type.
The web-site was very informative. I like reading about products, rather than having an aggressive sales lady push products on me! I'll keep you'll posted!

Thanks for the tip Amberskye, I'll check out their website. I used Clinqiue for a while but I found their products too harsh, only too find that the toner has alcohol. the Clarins toner is so much better as it works without drying out the skin.
I use a mattifier by Peter Thomas Roth. It is expensive but works very well. You can get a sample of it at Sephora to see if it works for you.

Hey Allandra, just to let you know I tried the Zero Oil by Origins and I'm still shiny. So I am thinking of officially giving up. I will be in the Caribbean Labor Day weekend and was hoping to find something by then but I guess I'll simply have to stay out of the sun.

Bio-Matte by Arbonne International is great for getting rid of that shine for good! The complete system is very costly ($80 some for cleanser, toner, two moisturizers, a mattifier, and eye cream)but it works well. I haven't had a blemish since I started, either.

I have been using DML moisturizer twice a day. It's non oily and gives the face a sort of matte (less shiney) look when you 1st put it on. I don't know when it happened but my face is no longer an oil slick. I've been using it for 2 weeks.
